Masala Art — Restaurant in Washington

Ordered from here for home delivery because they had onion Bhaji’s and I’ve not had them since I left the UK, they were great but the rest of our $170 dollar meal for two was awful. I had a vindaloo that was so ridiculously over done with chili that it was inedible, Vindaloo is supposed to be spicy but not like this, even the biryani was over done with chili’s. It honestly felt like a prank. I love spicy food and coming from the UK I’m used to quite hot curries but this was just miserable. I called the restaurant and was told the manager would call me back. No call back, so I guess they don’t need my business. Shame I was hoping this would not be another poor quality brown sauce Indian cuisine take out, but it was.

Updated I received a call from the owner, he was very professional and apologetic about the issues. Given his sincerity and genuine concern I think this is worth a try again. He also sent us a gift certificate to redeem at his restaurant for 50% of the initial meal. A nice gesture and we will give it another go sometime.

I moved my initial 2 star rating to 3 star as a result...

i have not tried food so my review is purely based on I was treated when I walked in past the end time for lunch buffet. When I walked in there were servers in the far corner of the room cleaning up. When a manager saw me he was saying something from the far corner of the room and I could not hear so I walked toward him with my rain drops from my umbrella slightly dripping on the floor and he said It is closed and asked me to walk back toward the entrance door because of water drops hitting the floor. Regardless, this was not a proper way to treat a customer, he could have politely said that they were closed and the time they would plan to re-open, the fact that lunch buffet ended does not indicate that they are closed for menu items - all these things should have been politlely communicated to me instead of pointining me back to the door because of water dripping from my umbrella. For a second I left like I was homeless asking for money -at least his behaved like i was. Totally unprofessional! I have not tried the food there and I am not planning to -save the...

I went to order take out here. The food came out quite fast, perhaps a bit too fast. i had ordered the lamb vindaloo. When I got back home (I live near by) and opened the package, I noticed that the rice that came with it was a weird brown color. The entree was lukewarm. Tasting it, the rice tasted very overcooked and mushy and the gravy of the vindaloo was oddly sour. I actually think they may have given me left overs from days ago that may have gone bad. I am Indian myself and I've had vindaloos at many restaurants as take out and theirs is far from being acceptable. The quantity was also small, but in this case i didn't care much because the food was borderline edible due to being somewhat rancid. I hope I don't get food poisoning from it. needless to say, i won't be going back here for dine in or take out again. it's unfortunate because it's the only indian place that i know of...
