I saw photos of 2D Noodles online and knew I wanted to give it a try. It reminded me of Sketch in London, where the walls are painted in 2D illustration style for a whimsical effect. The fact that the 2D Noodles had an Asian-inspired menu was definitely intriguing.
Decided to meet a friend and colleague for lunch during the week and it was a good choice to try something new and different. The vibe is fun and different from the moment you walk in 2D Noodles. There’s a vintage white UK telephone booth that looks like a perfect photo opp.
As soon as you walk in, it’s like you stepped into a real-life comic book since you’re surrounded by stark white walls accented with black illustrations. It’s very surreal, but something is very calming about the visual impact of the 2D wall murals.
The staff is really nice and very helpful. You order & pay from a self-service kiosk, grab a table # if you’re dining in or place your carry-out order.
It was easy to get a table as it wasn’t busy on this particular day as we were on the later end of the lunch time rush.
The 2D menu was good, but honestly, I was hoping for a little more variety. The menu had most of the traditional items like spring rolls, various dumplings, of course noodles and ramen.
The beverage menu had some unique items like a lychee rose tea & a kumquat passionfruit lemonade both of which were fruity & flavorful! I accidentally drank my friend’s drink and the staff was kind enough to bring her a new drink at no charge.
I was having an eyes are bigger than my stomach moment and ordered vegetarian spring rolls, shrimp & pork soup dumplings & the chicken with rice noodles. Everything was tasty.
One thing to note, I realized that had black ink on my arm. It looked like some of the ink used to decorate the seating may have rubbed off.
Would I go back sure. It’s a cute place with quick, casual food that...
Read moreGlad to have an establishment like 2D Noodles enter the former Starbucks spot. With 3+ fried chicken joints in the neighborhood, 2D Noodles is a great addition that provides alternative option to fried chicken.
The ordering kiosk is not great. You have to do too many taps to dine in. Like hit the dine in then enter the number, then go back and hit the menu, etc. It does help that someone at the front walks you through the kiosk. Without them, I'd get frustrated and just go eat fried chicken...
Ordering drinks is a bit confusing. I was interested in getting Boba Tea, but in their menu option it says they don't have any pearls. That's no good... Instead, I got a Mango Smoothie. That was good and refreshing.
Not Really Seaweed Salad turns out to be a Seaweed Salad. That's OK. I like seaweed. Maybe it is called this because it is just seaweed and not an assortment of other things which would make it a salad. The Not Really Seaweed Salad is just seasoned seaweed.
I tried the Forest Made Ramen. It was great, but a bit salty. The Mango Smoothie helped cut the saltiness down.
For my recent visit, I ordered the Signature Miso Ramen but was given the Spicy Miso Ramen instead. Not sure if they ran out of their Signature Miso Ramen broth, but I didn't complain because it was still a miso ramen and it cost the same as the Signature Miso Ramen. The ramen was spicy as its namesake. But like the Forest Made Ramen, it was pretty salty.
Based on other reviews, seems like this place likes their broth salty. If they can tone down the salt, it would make me revisit this place more often. Right now, at the current saltiness level, I'd have to limit my visits because I don't want a heart-attack.
Nonetheless, I recommend people to try this place if they crave for noodles and a...
Read moreMe and my party got a variety of items since it is most of our first time visiting dc. First, walking into the restaurant it was completely empty aside from the hostess and the teenager making the drinks. Then, we had to serve and seat ourselves (which in itself isn’t a problem) but the price of the food should reflect that. The food was decent aside from the chicken coming out almost frozen and had to sit in the broth for at least 5 minutes for it to a reasonable amount of warmth for consumption. The additional chicken I ordered was also equally as cold and unseasoned as what was served in my ramen bowl. Additionally, mine and my friend’s milk tea boba came out at a reasonable time along with our food, but my other friends had to wait 20+ minutes after we got our drinks. They waited because friends (as it appeared) of the staff came in and got their drinks made immediately and they also appeared to not pay for these. However, we aren’t completely certain because we were seated farther away. this happened on 9/16 and If it were me, I would talk to the employees about putting others orders before walk ins. Aside from this, they were polite overall. The woman who brought out our food from the kitchen did a good job and was polite. It would be nice to have at least one server since it seems to be a slow location. The walls were cute but the other issues with this experience kind of soured the outing, especially since it was for a birthday. Another annoying thing with the drinks is that the regular and large cups are almost identical in size and maybe only off by 4oz MAX. I have attached a video demonstrating that below. It is not worth the near $1.50 upcharge. If I came to dc again I would not visit again since there are so many other nice restaurants...
