Mis Tres Amigos Restaurant & Cantina, Puyallup WA
This family owned and operated restaurant is well worth the stop if you are in the southeastern most part of Puyallup (almost to Orting) or visiting the local Freddies or WinCo foods. This location is one of two (the other in Lakewood/Steilacoom) which serves authentic Mexican dishes in an open and lively atmosphere. To be honest, from the location and outside visuals you wouldn't really expect much, but once inside its a friendly and inviting experience, we have visited the Lakewood location many times over many years (25+) and were excited to finally visit the Puyallup location for the first time recently. Being the newer of the two, the decor seems to be much more festive not to mention larger with huge booths to accommodate guests comfortably. The staff were friendly and outgoing (as in both locations), and the authenticity of the establishment cant be doubted with the amount of Spanish being spoken amongst the staff, not to mention a substantial number of customers on our visit. Upon seating, Mis Tres Amigos immediately provides you with a basket of fresh made corn chips along with both green and red salsa to enjoy whilst perusing a substantial lunch and dinner menu which also offers an assortment of appetizer options which by quantity can be a meal unto themselves (as in the chicken flautas which are delicious!). On our lunch visit to Puyallup, we started with the above mentioned Flautas (Rolled Flour Tortillas filled with choice of Ground Beef, Chicken or Picadillo. Deep Fried and served with Guacamole, Sour Cream, Tomatoes, Cotija Cheese and Mild Sauce), followed by one order (off the dinner menu) of Pollo en Mole (Chicken Breast Strips sauteed in truly authentic and aromatic Mole Sauce) served with Spanish Rice and choice of Refried, Whole or Black Beans. In addition we also ordered a combo plate of an Enchilada, Tostada and Tamale (choice of Ground Beef, Chicken, Picadillo or Cheese) also served with Spanish Rice and choice of Refried, Whole or Black Beans. With most dishes you can add Sour Cream and Guacamole for an additional fee which is well worth it for the guacamole alone. As noted earlier the serving sizes are generous, so after the chips, salsa, appetizer and then main, plan on a to go box. Mis Tres also offers a full bar which features an extremely enticing array of Margaritas along with daily happy hours and featured nibbly bits. The history of this family run business goes back almost three decades ,and obviously they have got the formula right all the way down to the Fried Ice Cream dessert. So whether in South Puyallup or the Lakewood/Steilacoom area be sure to give...
Read moreOne star: Because Zero stars is not an option... Why I'd give it a zero:1) When we first entered the restaurant and were taken to an open table, my fiancé and I could overhear the wait staff speaking with a nearby table (teen waiter, teen patrons) about how she "kept another girl from getting a job there because she didn't like her.." EXTREMELY unprofessional to have discussions like that in front of other patrons...2) One of the wait staff brought chips and salsa. But did not even greet us or say a word. Just dropped the chips and salsa off as if it were a spy game. As if her getting seen or noticed would've meant she failed in some way.3) More than ten minutes passed between the arrival of chips and the arrival of our actual waitress. Which meant that the first ten minutes went without drinks.4) When we finally did get our drinks, the waitress forgot to bring two of the drinks we had asked for. (We just lived with the outcome, because our experience thus far had been so bad we just wanted to get our food and get the hell out of there.)5) Our food arrived quickly after ordering, which with what we ordered (Carne Asade Burrito, Beef Taco Salad) that it meant the food was most certainly cooked before we even ordered it. The steak in the carne asada was so dry, so fatty, so CHEAP that we picked out the meat entirely and ate around it. The taco salad beef was so greasy, that had it not been in a taco salad shell (which absorbed most the grease and turned to mush) that it wouldn't have been edible.6) After we "ate" and were ready to leave, it took so long to get the bill, that I took our two children to the car. A five year old, and a less than one year old. On the way out, I bumped into a stand that sent a collection of paper advertisements flying. These sorts of things happen, but what makes it REALLY bad, is that the three teenage/young twenty something employees standing at the host counter less than four feet away STOOD AND WATCHED as I tried to pick up the papers, wrangle a five year old, and hold our one year old. No attempt to help me pick up, no attempts to open the doors for me, no nothing. Just standing there GAWKING.We will never EVER go back to this place and we never recommend this...
Read morePlease save your family the time and money. I ordered menudo that was supposed to come with flour corn tortillas. (It did not) However, it did spill over the rest of the food I had ordered by the time the uber driver got here becuase the lid wasn't put on properly. What was left of the menudo tasted like fattening water. Thank god they give you lime because I needed it to take the taste out of my mouth. I paid extra for meat but what I really got was bone and water. I think they just dumped whatever was left in the bottom of the pot into a container and sold it to me. The rice and beans were cold , along with the hairy carne asada burrito. It wasn't edible. Cheese ontop was stiff like it had been sitting for a while. I wish I would've went with my gut feeling on not eating it but since I paid for it I thought I would try it. To my surprise there was hair inside. I wouldn't eat here again if they paid me too. The horchata was condensed milk and water. I did take pictures and sent them to the department of health because my 4 year old nephew was supposed to eat the food I ordered for him. The reason I'm writing this review is to save you and your kids. If you want good clean mexican food, please go somewhere else or cook it yourself. It literally can't taste worse no matter where you go....
