Perfectly placed next to the Georgetown Waterfront, Muncheez has the perfect location, vibe, and food to satisfy all of your late-night cravings. At every other part of the day, though...it's a little too rich and too heavy, and most items leave me feeling pretty bogged down for the rest of the day. I did really enjoy their za'atar manakeesh -- this Levantine flatbread is stuffed with olive oil, cucumbers, tomatoes, olives, and mint; the olive oil and olives make the flatbread really satisfying and pair beautifully with the remarkably aromatic and flavorful za'atar seasoning blend, but the fresh cucumbers, tomatoes, and mint offer bright notes to cut through the richness of the other ingredients. If you aren't feeling a full-size flatbread, their mini za'atar (which is a little bit smaller than your hand) is the perfect size for a little afternoon snack or side.
Their bowls, while also delicious, lack that same balance of flavors -- I ordered a couple of build-your-own bowls recently, each with a base of lentils and baby spinach, topped with roasted cauliflower and a bunch of their veggie toppings. Although tasty, I have a couple of warnings / tips for anyone else ordering these items -- (1) their lentils are very watery / soupy, so be prepared for a pool of liquid at the bottom of your bowl; (2) the hummus and baba ghannouj, while delicious, are quite salty and can easily overpower a dish; (3) their baba ghannouj has dairy in it, so definitely steer clear if you're lactose intolerant or otherwise dairy-free; (4) they really do not hold back on the sauces -- they're extremely heavy-handed with the sauces (particularly the yogurt cucumber sauce for whatever reason), which are all so flavorful and rich that they completely overpower the rest of the bowl. I honestly ended up needing to add my own spinach and greens just to lighten up the bowl. I ordered one bowl with the yogurt cucumber sauce and one bowl with it, and it was a million times better without -- it was still extremely rich from the hummus and tahini I added to it, but it didn't feel like I was eating a savory yogurt parfait that was going to sit in my stomach for the next 3 days. I think the most difficult thing for me to stomach was finding two dead flies inside one of my bowls, which, while I'm always down for some extra protein, wasn't exactly what I was expecting.
All in all, Muncheez does a great job of satisfying my late-night cravings for fried, rich, heavy foods, but it wouldn't be my top choice for a standard lunch or dinner...even so, really appreciate how kind and friendly the staff is, and the love they put into each...
Read moreI recently had a horrifying experience at Muncheez that left me questioning their commitment to hygiene and customer satisfaction. As a vegetarian, I ordered a falafel sandwich with high hopes, only to be met with disappointment, disgust, and a strong desire to vomit.
Firstly, the lack of hygiene practices at Muncheez is absolutely appalling. The staff members wore the same gloves all day long, without bothering to change or sanitize them between handling different types of food. I witnessed them handling beef and other kinds of meats, and then using the same oily, greasy hands to crush the falafel into the wrap. It was a nightmare watching them contaminate my supposedly vegetarian meal with meat residue.
The sight of their oily hands, undoubtedly contaminated with various meat juices, was enough to make me lose my appetite entirely. I couldn't fathom the level of carelessness and disregard for basic hygiene practices displayed by the staff. It's not only unprofessional but also a serious health risk for customers, particularly those with dietary restrictions or allergies.
I commend them for at least refunding my money when I brought up the issue, but that does little to rectify the revolting experience I had endured. It is clear that Muncheez lacks proper training and supervision in maintaining a clean and hygienic environment, making it a place I would strongly advise against visiting.
I implore Muncheez to prioritize hygiene and invest in proper training for their staff. It is unacceptable to handle food in such a careless and unhygienic manner, especially when catering to customers with specific dietary requirements. Until significant improvements are made, I cannot recommend Muncheez to anyone seeking a safe and enjoyable...
Read moreWe've been coming to Muncheez for over a decade now and I have never been disappointed with their food or their service.
This weekend, we actually tried them for catering services for the time first. We tried their "Live Shawarma" experience and it was everything we wanted it to be and more. The food was ON point (as always) but most importantly the way these guys handled the crowd and cared for our guests it was absolutely amazing.
Our guests have been calling us and giving us compliments on such a wonderful experience, everyone enjoyed it and like it.
Abbas, Ali and (i'm sorry I forget the name of the third gentlemen) but Kudos to you for creating such a memorable event for us.
Also we started our request for a catering quote online through their website. Soon we received a call followed by an email from Abbas. Over the course of 10 days we went back and forth asking a million questions, but every time we got a response within an hour or two at max, and everything was explained to us clearly and we already felt very comfortable before our end. They definitely made sure that we felt at ease knowing our event will be properly handled.
I suggest everyone to give them a shot for their catering services -- or at least visit the restaurant if you haven't done so yet (where have you been this entire time). Always a splendid...
