I do not recommend the Georgetown Heritage canal tour. It is rather boring. It costs $20 + online fees for adults. It lasts an hour and it is very bland. Just walk the canal path yourself. I’m glad I tried this out myself before taking my family/visitors to this. The tour guides were nice (hence the two stars), and they were so hot in their colonial outfits in this 90 degree humidity. But overall it was just not worth the money and the information wasn’t interesting. I don’t think many other people on the tour seemed to enjoy it either.

Lock 3 is definitely the premier area in the Georgetown section of the C&O canal. The Visitors Center and a bust of Supreme Court Justice William O. Douglas are both located here. There are also tables with chairs on one side and lounge type chairs on the opposite side of the Canal. Although the Visitor Center has limited hours, this section of the Canal is currently open. Took the canal boat tour. Cute little ride and the lock demonstration was really great, but I regret just not walking along the trail myself. The starting point is scenic and cute, but the boat just slowly trolls down the old canal along the back end of renovated offices, overgrowth, and graffiti. There isn’t much to look at. We were all thinking it would be a little more historic along the way. Was okay for a rainy day and we learned some history, but I would probably...

The c&o boat tour is probably a bit overpriced. It had some interesting parts, particularly the canal lock and some of the details about how the canal was built, but they were interspersed with 90 minutes of less captivating material. The tour guide was friendly and enthusiastic, and unlike some of the other reviews, it wasn’t too hot on this particular day. I think it would be ideally half the length that it was. The canal path itself is very...
