Well, what do you know, there is a little cafe in an area I never knew was there! Sugar Studios Crepe Cafe, apparently this little, and I mean tiny, cafe has appeared on my radar today but has been established for eight years. In my defense, I don't frequent old town Silverdale, even less so now due to significant construction going on in that area. None-the-less this little cafe is all about hand-spun crepes, from sweet to crabby (yes, I am talking about the food and not my personality, lol). I like that Sugar Studios' menu isn't enormous; instead, simple with enough items to give you a choice and not significant to make you feel overwhelmed. There is a flavor for everyone. Sugar Studios also offers up some baked items, baklava, cookies, and cinnamon rolls, and you can have that while drinking one of their espressos. Now, although I can't give you personal feedback on their crepes, cookies, or cinnamon rolls, I certainly can give you my opinion on their espresso and baklava. Honestly, who doesn't love layers of airy, flakey, lightly crispy phyllo dough layered with sugar, cinnamon, vanilla, honey, and pistachios? Ok, I can't verify if they use pistachios; it could have been walnuts; it was so yummy it didn't matter to me! And not one layer was soggy, even though it rode in my car for four hours.
Of course, I had to try an americano, there it is again, that creamy caramel background flavor; savory aroma, mild acidity, and little to no after taste, my one minor grumble, and this is a personal thing, is I love my coffees really hot, most people I know would think the temperature of this americano was perfect, including my hubby, in my opinion, and only my opinion, warm that baby up just a few more degrees!!!! But this americano was still really spectacular. It definitely fits in my top contenders for an excellent americano. And if I were only ranking the drink, it would be 4.5 (out of 5) Stir stick rating =D
About the little cafe itself, everything is pretty open, meaning you can see where things are being prepped, prepared, and cleaned, so that was a little unusual to me; however, watching her make the crepes were pretty cool. There are three tables located inside, so best to place an order to go or plan on eating outside on a sunny day.
The door to enter isn't in a prime location; it falls right next to one of the tables and very close to another table off to the left. So if four people are sitting at the table to the right, you could easily bump right into them as you enter the cafe, as I almost did with my purse with just two people sitting at the table to the right. It definitely can't have more than a couple of people standing and ordering; space just isn't permitting, so call ahead or wait outside.
There were a few marked parking spaces for Sugar Studios crepe cafe; I can imagine that most of these little businesses rely on on-street parking on busier days. Also, you are within a few blocks or less of Silverdale Waterfront park; you could possibly park there and perhaps walk over.
Daleen, I felt, was the owner, although I did not confirm that. She was pleasant and friendly, with excellent customer service all the way around. If you meet her, you'll like her!
I'm looking forward to trying a crepe and another one of her fabulous americanos.

Read moreThis place has some serious ups and downs. The appearance and atmosphere on a good summer day can coalesce to engender a balmy meal in the early day, add the overall welcoming staff and you'll find this to be a place that is somewhat largely tasteful, however this ultimately was an unfortunate experience in well designed duplicity. As I have the tastebuds of a child I opted with great haste for the strawberry cheescake crepe at a reasonable 10$. My wife ordered the lemon drop crepe. My order was well sweetened in sugar meaning that my tragically childlike sensibilities will only grant me to make two remonstrances. The outer rim of the crepe was crunchy -which is normal in some cases- but the downside is the brilliance in the fact that the inner area is an off putting doughy rubber. The outrage of the establishment rages on when the plate with my wife's order is plunked onto the table bearing verrily so a one page thin folded dough layer spritzed with lemon and maybe grease. As she looked at the somehow increasingly lamentable plate, her sulking visage deepened into a hardened sulk, following suit she sank into her chair "wow nine dollars" she grumble with a derisive tone, as the last of her hope for this eatery visibly met its end. I thought to myself " for some people nine dollars may not be alot but for that outlay she surely deserves more than an floundering page of caoutchouc grease that couldnt even be bothered to deign itself to justify its own being." Append this to the four dollar price of orange juice from a cup debatably 16ouncez that is immediately brought out to you ready for consumption, and you almost feel as if you're being held up by highway bandits with smiles and ponytails. Keep in mind they come to your table with 2 glasses of orange juice seemingly in assumption that you'll say yes to it before you even see its listing on the menu, perhaps this is a bijou underhanded method to squeeze out some more money and maybe it isnt so alarming but its what proceeded to set the lasting impression I had. Now this certainly doesnt mean that the place lacks potential. Again the view is good and the outside eating area dominates with its simplistic beauty, but the near price gouging left a bit of an unpleasant sentiment. Also one of the waitresses gave us a scoul as we entered...
Read moreI recently ordered some cookies for an event. I placed the order two weeks in advance and ordered a specific amount of vegan/gluten free cookies. I paid in advance. When I came to pick up the cookies, they were 16 cookies short of my order. Luckily, they had 11 in the display case and were able to package them up for me right then. I was still five short. I spoke on the phone with the owner and she assured me she could have five more vegan cookies made up the same way for the event the next day. I explained I needed them to be made by 11 and if they weren't able to have them made, please let me know. My designated cookie picker upper arrived the next day at 10:30 (bit early) and said she would be back for them. They made them right then and because they were still wet, they weren't packaged. When the cookies finally arrived, I noticed they were different looking than the others and realized they might not be vegan :( I tried confirming this with the bakery and they never responded. If I had to do it all over again, I wouldn't got to Sugar Studios. Even though they figured out my order, I had to make special arrangements to get the cookies in time AND they never confirmed they were the right kind...which could have potentially made a lot of kids very sick had I not withheld the cookies until hearing back. I'm disappointed that I paid high prices for these special cookies and heard reviews from event goers that the cookies tasted uncooked. Frustrated and disappointed.
