So this is my first time trying them. My co-worker swears by Surfside and eats there regularly. I prefer a different taco spot in the area, but I injured my foot and couldn't go out, so I opted to have him pick me up something. I'm not totally disappointed......
I ordered the Negril (Blackened tilapia on corn tortillas with spicy cabbage, avocado and chili ranch dressing) and it came w/ yellow rice. First and for-most it smelled freakin AMAZING!! Like as soon as you open to container the flavors reach up and slap you across the face!! My mouth was instantly watering. So of course yall know what I did next right??? YEPPERS! I grabbed a taco and took a huge bite. Much to my dismay, I was instantly disappointed. The tortilla had absolutely NO TASTE :( :( :( It was like a multi-grain bread kinda taste. Not even honey wheat, but just grains..... It really was a shame because every other flavor had to compete with the "grainy" taste and it just didn't go so well for me. Eventually I ditched the tortilla all together and just ate everything else all mixed together. It was excellent then... Every individual flavor was great and they blended together perfectly.
I'll go back, again, and try something different just so I can say I did, but I'm not to sure I'll be eating there again after that. I mean, the tortilla's at a Taco spot are a pretty big deal. They tie the whole meal together.... Hopefully the flour tortilla's have...
Read moreI have frequented this establishment often. Usually my experience is pretty good. The St. Croix, when prepared right, is to die for. But I've had the worst experience with surf side(dupont) the last 3 times I've visited. First time, paid extra for grilled peppers and onions, and was told that they had been added after I asked the server to check for them. He lied and said yes. Second, I ordered a St. Croix, and was given what looked like a SC someone ordered earlier that day but had not picked it up, so they held on to it, reheated it and sold it to me, even the guac I ordered with it had begun to brown. It was clearly hours old. Third time, I went for lunch, just to come to a sigh reading " Closed til 10am". It was 9:45, so I just sat and waited. At 10:10 I went to place an order just to be told the system's down, and that they would not be opening. They watched me wait for 20 mins and not once thought to tell me the 10am opening time was BS. I've tried to speak to a manager, and have always been told he is not there. Ever. I asked for his number, and they would not give it to me. The phone number they advertise never gets answered. Their customer service is horrible. I don't care how good the food is, until they treat their customers like they give a damn about them or their concerns, I won't be back again. And I hope others expect the same from the places they choose to spend...
Read moreSoooo - this is thee place for a late night snack done right (assuming you make “good”choices).
I wanted something to eat but I didn’t want anything heavy. I finally decided to venture to Surfside at 1030 pm. And boy it did not disappoint. I’m not sure if they just made a grocery run before I arrived but everything was super fresh.
I ordered Cabo San Lucas tacos - grilled steak with guacamole, peppers, onions and fresh cilantro. I substituted the rice with salad and pico instead of ranch dressing and it was a late night Meal with zero regret. I gave away one taco to my family and I was still satisfied. The portions were great.
I can’t discredit the low rating experiences but this was 200% what I was looking for tonight. Thank you Surfside by doing right by our non-fried and low salt late night snackers. I don’t live in DC and may never be back but I hope this review encourages people...
