Twelve After Twelve creates a brand new experience while keeping the legacy and utility of the location faithful to its predecessor—a place for up-and-coming bands, and a diverse mix of musical genres from local artists and bands, including funk, disco, soul, hip-hop, acid jazz, downtempo, reggae, house, and live Latin and jazz music.
The renovation of previously known space as 18th street lounge into a Twelve After Twelve is a success in my opinion. The unique experience and relaxing vibe will capture your attention from the moment you walk in; exploring each floor and its unique design, character, and style is a joy. The new second-floor outdoor lounge looks stunning; the arrival passage is beautifully decorated with fantastic art and decor. My date and I felt safe and enjoyed our experience. This is an upscale venue experience with great music. Five-star overall.
As you walk in, the overall vibe feels transcendent and timeless. There are several hints of time dilation and other poetry pieces dedicated to that theme like watches and clocks sprinkled around the second floor entrance. As you head to the main floor, the red color that illuminates the entrance to the main venue sets a suspenseful vibe, sofas create the perfect opportunity to socialize and take a break, or have drinks with your date. This room leads to a beautifully designed lower floor where the band and music play.
When you walk to the outdoor bar you will experience a set of art pieces themed after roses and flowers. Again, here the tone and vibe, mind you after a few drinks, feels transcending.
The service is excellent and professional; from the front door security to the bartenders. Security walked around and made us feel secure and free to enjoy the experience of the venue.
This is a classy 21+ year olds and older club with four levels and multiple bars.
Here's my pro tip for anyone going out to a club, be kind to the staff, don't act like a fool, control your drinking, and have fun. You should have no issues at any club.
The music will depend on the night of the week you attend, but their Thursday LIVE Salsa bands are amazing. I highly recommend it. You also want to visit on a Friday or Saturday night for the variety of music that 18th street lougue was famous for.
The cons: there's a service charge to every transaction, but that's a DC law, not a club issue. There wasn't anything constructive to say about the place at the moment on my first visit, I will do a follow-up after a second visit. Overall, I enjoyed myself, and my date and I had a great experience and an...
Read moreEVERYTHING about this venue is awful, and it has no redeeming qualities. The owners bought one of the greatest bars in DC (18th Street Lounge) and turned it into one of the worst.
Infrastructure -- sucks. If it rains, you'll get leaked on, PLUS you'll be standing in 2 inches of water.
Prices -- TOTAL RIPOFF! Their weak rail drinks come out to $24. They automatically charge 20% "gratuity" on everything so you're forced to tip their bad bartenders $4 on every weak rail drink.
Management -- I bought tickets online ($20) in advance to see an artist. When I got there, I had to wait in like 30 minutes, sitting behind people who had no tickets. To add insult to injury, these randos (who didn't even know there was a show happening) only had to pay $10 to get in. Why am I being punished for supporting the artist and venue in advance?
Crowd -- awful. It's a bunch of blacked-out-by-midnight frat bros. Every minute you'll either get shoved, have beer spilled on you, and if you're a woman you'll definitely be grabbed and violated. The crowd is totally unaware when actual musical artists / touring DJs are performing, and the drunk club-trash will constantly be chanting "WHOOP WHOOP!" while your fav artist is trying to perform. The Echostage crowd on their worst night is still better than this crowd.
Sound -- terrible. The sound bleed is atrocious. They removed the wall between the two DJ areas (which was there for YEARS for good reason!), so unless you're standing within 10 feet of either DJs' speakers (which are both playing at the same time at full volume) you'll hear both DJs.
Policies -- awful. They'll tell you there's "re-entry", but if you walk outside to take a phonecall for 3 minutes, the rude bouncers will try to make you wait in the 20-minute line again to come back inside.
Advertising -- false! Management will stand outside telling people to come in for a "open bar!". But when you get inside, the open bar is only valid at one of the bars, and only one VERY SLOW bartender is serving there. Enjoy waiting 45 minutes for 1 drink! They advertise a deal then do everything in their power to prevent their patrons from claiming said deal. ...
Read moreThe ambiance is three floors. This is more a 2020’s rage club. Very spacious, but could use a good stand inside for the drunk and hungry. However around each corner is an Alice in Wonderland post race rage spot. Decorum is red velvet meets manic tequila and vibes. Now the 1 star is because there isn’t food, but there is raging music. If you like open air space make your way to the second floor outside. Ladies usually can find plenty of bachelors look to get or already buying bottle service. Now for the moment of pause for the fellas, hookah can only be purchased at tables. If you try to buy hookah at the bar it’s a $100 dollar minimum spend at the bar. The hip hop music floor smells like blazed lush lush Maui wowed kush w/ a hint of hood lavender. There’s plenty of single ladies that come to party, but it’s best to get here earlier around 10:30pm to establish a solid vibe and presence. Vibes and how you feel depends on the level of drinks and what you came for. Management runs a tight ship. Come early pay $10, come for 4th quarter during the 1:30am-3am time frame and the price is $20. Safety here is 4 stars, fights don’t get very far, so both ladies and guys are kept safe. Bartenders indoors need you speak up louder for your drinks. Outside on the patio it’s easier to order drinks if you just use your iPhone note pad. Specify the type of alcohol you want, vodka= Tito’s, Whiskey= Jack. Hookah at a table will take 5-10 minutes, anywhere else takes about 10-20 minutes for delivery (make sure you’re slightly tipsy to enjoy the buzz when it arrives). Girl to guy ratio is about 4 1/2 girls per every guy, if you’re a guy don’t come with more than 2 guy friends.if you’re a girl you’ll be fine. Remember everything is about the group you come with. There’s better seating inside, if your outside you’re standing up. All things considered it is a 3.5/5 star spot with better vibes the earlier you come. Gentlemen come f inancially prepared, ladies less clothing is more free...
