My experience wasn't so great! I went to Big Board to watch the NCAA Tournament last night. While watching the game an employee decided to change the TV (white guy with black earrings in his ear) with 12 min left in the game. I ask him why would he turn the channel? His answer was " because there are 3 games on and they have to show all games." Ok that makes sense but as I scanned the room I noticed no one was REALLY watching the other TV's and I was obviously there to watch the Florida State vs Murray State game - While sitting quietly - It took 15/20 mins to get anyone to ask me a question regarding food or drinks. Finally I got service from a very nice bar tender with dark hair. She was pleasant and took good care of me but once her coworker decided to change the channel I had to get up and stand by the door to watch the remaining 2nd half of the game. Evenutally, I had enough and left - feeling totally disappointed with my experience. I will not return nor refer anyone to this bar/restaurant.It seems to me that people of color are not valued. Therefore, unfortunately it cost his coworker a good tip! I'm in the customer service business as well and I understand that the customers experience is just as important as the taste of the food. I'm color blind but not blind to poor service because of the color...
Read moreNo food here. Drab and smelly dive bar. The bartender had an attitude as if he was doing you a favor by merely being there. I tried to liven up the place with some humor but the bartender seemed annoyed. I really don't understand the appeal of this watering hole. I guess it's because it is a watering hole. I arrived to this location around 4:30 and it was populated with some locals in their 60s or 70s with a few younger H St. dwellers. Given it's closeness to Union Station I can see why this place remains in business along with it's reasonable drink prices. You can't beat $5 beer prices in DC these days. If you want a dive bar, a bar with no frills, sports on TV and smelly 80s atmosphere feel, than this is your place. It's open late, beer is cheap, in a great location. Like an old tennis shoe it does not look good and it smells, but at least it's...
Read moreGrifter takes advantage of low-information folks who don't live in DC - news at 11. Used to be my neighborhood spot until the owner decided he was more interested in begging for money to "fight the power", which he didn't do at all. By all accounts, he pocketed tens of thousands of dollars, lost their ABRA license, closed the shop for months, and left town to do interviews with talking heads. But by all means, tourists, please come into Northeast DC to pay $14 for a hamburger so you can tell your buddies back home that you supported a real patriot.
The concept used to be how the BIG BOARD beer prices would change to reflect supply and demand. The actuality is that the beer prices hover within a quarter of each other and never really change substantively. Politics aside, it's not a good deal. Catfish bites are decent - too bad I won't be back...
