I have been coming here on and off since it opened a few years ago. The customer service has improved, the overall attitude of the staff is less rude, but it is still chaos. If something is not priced absolutely no one can help you get the price until you get to a scanner (maybe supply handheld scanners for the staff instead of just elite shoppers? Or place scanning stations throughout the store like CVS? Easy solutions IMO) the self-checkout is poorly designed. The long conveyor belt makes it awkward for bagging, by the time you walk down to your groceries the person behind you has already started sending theirs towards you. If you have an item that is sensitive to being jostled the conveyor belt almost ensures its disruption (eggs, kombucha, carbonated beverages) The store layout has improved too, and the staff is more amenable to helping you find something as opposed to shrugging like they've done in the past. The electronic coupons almost work, but after having been screamed at by management that it doesn't matter what the email on my phone says, nor what the previous manager told me about having the email ready when I arrived (the place is like a bomb shelter for data reception) she will not honor it. This happened a year ago, since then the electronic coupons work about 1/2 the time but I am reticent to ask management almost anything especially about electronic coupons, however they appear to be less stressed out overall too. In general, customer relations have improved I guess because this stores reputation is widely known. Infrastructure changes in Giant's logistics (self checkout, coupons e.g.) appear a long way off. This store/chain has a long way to go before they catch up to Harris-Teeter(1/2 mile away) and will have a need for a severe comeuppance when wholefoods opens up a few blocks away It'll be interesting to see if...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreEmployees working in the morning at the Delicatessen area are often rude and unhelpful, just today at 7.30AM I tried to get fresh sandwich meat there and the person behind the display fridge - a young woman with long hair and unfriendly attitude- was ignoring me for several minutes before I asked politely if the area was open, as the sign behind her clearly says the Delicatessen opens dialy at 7AM but her initial dismissive attitude made me feel I had to ask her to help me, then her answer in a dismissive tone of voice was that the area OPENS AT 8AM to what I replied that the sign behind her says that the service opens at 7am, my tone of voice was polite at all times but then she snapped at me and with a very loud tone of voice she exploded agressively against me: OK THEN WHAT DO YOU WANT SIR !!??? I saw her eyes and she was furious against me being a costumer, at that moment I felt not only suprised but also upset and kind of scared after being attacked like this. After a minute of sillence she was putting plastic gloves on with violent movements, I just said: You know what, I donāt want anything. Thank you. This happened earlier today, I was a in a hurry then but now I needed to share this terrible experience here before I file a complain with Giantās Costume Service and try to address a letter to the general manager Jerome Debrew. Itās not the first time I feel unwelcome at the Delicatessen area, but today, I felt verbally attacked. This...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI usually don't review grocery stores but unusual practices in this store finally made me write about them. The manager of this store must be either very new and inexperienced or simply not pissing off customers is his last priority. I have been working near Giant for the past 4 years. Parking is scarce on H street. Their parking has been wide open withe gates up (free) fir the entirety of this time. In my case I would have paid but no ticket no attendant. In my mind to be fair to the store, I started buying my groceries from them since I was using the parking. The manager seems to be so focused on catching shop lifters that does not realize that you don't turn your back on your money spending customers in the name of catching shop lifters. You can not walk in the store with your bagpack, for little knick knack that is usually by the register you have to stay in line of customer service it took me once 23 min to buy a lighter.his latest act which I was actually shopping that day when I came back after 23 min to find a $250 parking ticket . This is also the only grocery store that I have seen armed security officers at the door. Very disappointed I have already got the parking ticket dismissed since their parking lot is wide open and I also had my receipt from Giant for the time they issued ticket. But Mr. Manager continue missing off money spending customer you will be left with just shoplifters. That...
