So the food was seasoned to perfection. I had a few hiccups here today though. When I first approach the counter and the young lady there to take my order she said how can I help you sir. Then she paused for a second and said oh I'm sorry excuse me ma'am. I by no means look like a man. I am not masculine looking or anything. Very feminine. I had my locs pulled up with earrings makeup on and the whole nine. Even if I was another gender and identified as something else. You can absolutely look at me and assume femininity. That was concerning. I have autism so I could not tell whether she was being funny or if it was just a mistake. Either way as a full-fledged uterus carrying women it made me very uncomfortable. To the point where I could not even communicate my order to her for a few moments. I just stared at her awkwardly trying to figure out if I had done something wrong in this situation. I wasn't dressed like a male and I generally don't understand why I was mistaken for one. Second I got two dishes because I was really craving them. I got peanut butter stew and the meat that was given to me was probably equivalent to one chicken thigh. No dried shrimp or fish as promises, just about a chicken thigh. And for $18.50 it just was not worth it to me even though it was seasoned really well. She was gracious enough to give me additional peanut butter sauce on the side for my jollof rice without charge after my order was complete. I appreciate her for that because the jollof was a little bit dry and gummy. Also it was communicated that oxtails, chicken and goat was in the cassava leaf which I also got for $18.50. and the only thing that was on my plate was chicken. And this portion still seems really insignificant for the amount of money. I know myself as foreigners we cut up chicken. So it's not like I was getting whole chicken or something. What I literally got acquainted to probably one piece of chicken in both meals. And while I love a good sauce. I wanted the oxtail, goat, dried fish and dried shrimp that was advertised for the meal. Could this been an isolated moment yes. Am I willing to go back yes. The food was seasoned and flavorful I just don't feel that I got my money's worth and I was thrown off by the customer service. I will make a return trip because it's in my neighborhood and it is convenient to see if the experience is different. I also would like to note that they didn't have several things off of the menu. Which was a little off to me. If the menu varies daily that should be specified at all time... Idk maybe I'll try one of their other locations. Either way the taste of the food what's worth...
Read moreThis was my fiance and I second time at this location. On 2/14/25 around a little after 5pm i walked in sweet sweet kitchen and order jerk chicken. While I was paying for my food there were employees walking behind and around me also going in and outside of the kitchen and building. My fiance and I decided to eat in. Within 10 minutes there were employees going in and of the building every 2-3 minutes. There one employee came from outside and went straight in the kitchen and started cooking and touching food without washing his hands and wearing gloves. At the same time some walked in behind me at the bar and sat down. The guy was walking with a lip. He pull out CRACK and sold it to someone that came in. My fiance and I left. On Sunday I made time to talk to a manger or the owner about what happened. I talked to the owner brother because he told me he was a manger. Because I'm a business owner I like to handle things the right way. We went outside the restaurant and talked but mid way in the conversation he stop and went the restaurant. I waited around 8 minutes for him to come back outside to finish talking. He came outside with female that had food to walk her to her car but while doing he got her number then proceed to come back to me thinking that was ok to do that. He had the nerve to go back in the restaurant to get the person I mention. Come to found out he just helps there not an employee. That very unprofessional and uncomfortable. I stop the conversation and to my vehicle. I NEVER EAT THERE AGAIN. THAT...
Read moreGood Caribbean food and one of the best around the DMV area, if you’re in DC stop by, you will not be disappointed. Parking here is a bit tricky and hard to find since it’s only street parking.
5 stars for 5 reasons
The Ox tail is super yummy! So tender, soft and juicy meat! Must try! The cassava leaf with oxtail is a bit salty and it tasted kinda fishy but it was still good nonetheless! Good kick to it for sure! The cabbage is simple but delicious! I could it all day.
Second reason- When I entered the restaurant we were greeted immediately with smiles. The young beautiful worker was so nice and genuinely seemed to love her job.
The price at first seemed kinda high but if you think about it, the food was made with labor of love. It’s not your typical fast food where you pay 15 dollars for frozen packaged food! It’s labor intensive to make the oxtail.
They allow you to sample anything you want and they don’t skimped out when giving out samples.
The jollof was done to perfection! This ties all the food together and makes this an overall good food experience!
Will come back to try the jerk chicken which I...
