This was our first time at this restaurant. I expected so much better based on the reviews. I am not sure how these reviews are so high based on our experience. We came in from out of town to visit with family. First I would like to say that the server & staff we interacted with was good. Drinks were topped off regularly and we were checked in on frequently enough without it being too often. But that is where the praise will stop. The moment we walked in, there was the 'smell'. That sewage smell that you get when the grease traps have not been cleaned regularly. Or they have just been cleaned but the building was not properly vented. We could all smell if pretty strongly for an hour and a half before it either dissipated or we got used to it... That does not make for a pleasant experience. Esspecially when you will be eating. We were there for lunch with a few others. Between us, we had tea, lemonade, & a couple of different sodas. Each one of them tasted off. The tea just did not taste good. It had an odd flavor. The cola tasted like it had been mixed with something else. It too had an odd flavor. The lemonade was SOOOO sweet. It tasted like it was concentrated. None of us at the table enjoyed our food. I ordered a salad. It was supposed to come with mixed greens. I only order salads with mixed greens as I prefer the taste over a boring green leaf lettuce. This did not have a mixed greens. It appeared as a pre-packaged salad blend that had green leaf lettuce, carrots & cabbage. The apples that came on my salad were already partially brown, and they had already started to shrivel and pull away from the skins. The chicken on the salad was dry as well. As if it had been cooked the prior day, left uncovered in the fridge, and then reserved the next day. Another person had the tomato soup. It was very thick & did not come with any croutons, crackers, or otherwise crusty bread. Just a cup of a not very good soup. Another in the group had steak. The zip sauce that came with it was practically unrecognizeable. It had obviously been over heated. It had separtated leaving milk solids from the butter floating on the top, the melted butter in the middle, and all of the herbs sitting on the bottom of the dish. Very poorly executed. It did not appear appetizing nor did it taste good. We all left food on our plates even though we had an appetite. I would not recommend this...
Read moreOrdered spinach and artichoke dip as well as the pretzel sticks and cheese. Both appetizers were amazing. Very flavorful and good portions.
We also had: French onion soup 4/5 - really flavorful but they left the crust on some of the croutons which is strange.
Beef Stew 3/5 - looked like the stuff that you would get out of one of the cans. However, it was not terrible and tasted homemade. Problem was it was cold.
For the main meals: Cheeseburger with fries 3.5/5 - it was just pretty average. Good but nothing to write home about.
Fish and chips 4/5 - the fish was better than most. Good portions. Looks like homemade tartar sauce which was great.
The fries in each are just regular fries. Not seasoned. They are just fries. Which is fine.
Filet Tip Dinner 5/5 - The filet tips were awesome. Cooked exactly how I wanted at medium rare. The zip sauce was very flavorful and left me wanting more filet tips to finish the rest of it.
The problem was with the sides. 2/5
Mashed potatoes either were from a bag or were severely over mixed. And there was far too much on my plate. Almost a triple portion.
The mixed veggies were fresh broccoli, carrots, asparagus, and what looked like canned green beans? The fresh veggies were steamed. Pretty perfectly cooked actually. They could have had some butter and light seasoning on them and they would have been perfect. However, it was ruined by putting mushy canned looking green beans in. I mean they were so mushy I had to pick them out.
The restaurant itself was very maintained and clean. We sat next to the fish tanks and they were even well taken care of. Staff seemed real friendly and nice. There is even a small game room for kids. The only problem with it was the music was so loud that you had to talk very loud to have a conversation.
Over all it was pretty good. We will go back and try again. The food was very decently priced and there were a lot of things we would like to try. We’ll definitely get the...
Read moreThe food is good, decent for the most part. I wouldn’t say stellar. Things happen but the waitress I had seemed to pride herself when she took our order, of not writing anything down. She ended up forgetting the appetizer I had placed early on. What seemed like long periods of time she’d disappear and eventually, magically, show up. When she wasn’t standing around, she was busy busing drinks over to the billiard table area. That seemed to be more of a priority to her than remembering our complete order. At one point had to snag another waitstaff individual to explain not receiving the long awaited appetizer, to remove it from our bill. She sorta shrugged her shoulders, acknowledged my request and motored on like she was catching a flight to the airport. The hamburger I ordered was supposed to be well done, it didn’t exactly show up that way. With the restaurant being a giant open air room with the pool table area, it gets loud. And it did. It’s not a favorite place to eat in the Waterford area. For me, anyway. One of the other waitresses, not sure if she was auditioning for a swimsuit competition or what. She waited on some people at an adjoining table. She had on this cutesy black spandex pants number exposing a huge midriff area, revealing way more of herself than just her belly button. I thought she looked like a clown had come to town and the traveling road show had already left without her. I really don’t recommend this establishment, it’s overrated in my opinion. Save your money and go somewhere more inviting and more menu selections to choose from. You’ll be...
