8/29/16 UPDATE: I gave the store another chance, and was disappointed to find not just expired product but BAD product in the store. The Whitman's sampler had white blooming on the chocolate pieces. Chocolate blooming is caused by poor storage conditions. There was Ball Park brand beef jerky that was whitish and dried out completely. The Thorn Apple Valley bacon was turning colors. Unfortunately this visit was consistent with previous visits
June 2016: EXPIRED PRODUCT. I must agree with the other reviewer Hannah, there are many products past their sell by/expiration date. Contrary to the response given by the store, they DO NOT include the sticker advising customers of this information on most of the expired products or product tags. Also the expired product is not only found in a value section. It can be found throughout the store in the meat area, back of store, frozen section, behind checkout, and down multiple aisles. Aside from the expired product, I have found dates changed on $0.99/lb chicken breast packages, mold in Dutch Farm cheese packages displayed, and grayish green bacon in the store.
Even if for argument sake food past the expiration will not hurt you, it brings up questions as to the integrity and quality of the food offered. By selling this expired food it would contradict the precise intent of the manufacturer who has placed the date on the product to ensure freshness and a quality standard. You discard these standards, and the standards of the store, when you do not follow the selling guidelines of these dates.
The other three locations of this grocery chain go by the name Value Center Marketplace, BUT they call this location VC FRESH MARKETPLACE. If FRESH is the name and FRESH is a focus for the store, expired products do not support...
Read moreI live a few miles from this store. It's got so many great qualities. Large selection of products you can't find at places like Kroger and Meijer. Unfortunate though, that half time I try buying anything fresh from them, it is either molded or rotten within a day or two. Last night I snagged some lunch meat and a pack of Sub buns. Woke up this morning to make my lunch for work, and 3 out of the 4 buns in the package had mold on it.
I've bought bags of potatoes that had several rotten potatoes already as well. I remember the wife telling me she bought some fruit and when she got home to peel and package it into fruit cups for snacks, some of it was already spoiled as well I love coming here for a lot of things. The alcohol selection rivals even that of many specialized liquor stores. The deli and the meat section both have good products. It's also one of the few places I can go to buy Pig Neck bones for making Ramen noodle broth. However I have to stop buying Fruits, veggies and bread from here.
The customer service is great too, lines are never busy, there's always a bagger waiting at your line unlike most other grocery chains nowadays where I just bag my own stuff to speed it up. And the carts are the best you'll ever see... if they can sort out the fact that I've gotten so many moldy/rotten products from the fresh food section it would be a 5 star.
Oh, and bring back your ground pork Chorizo... I haven't seen it the last 3 times I've came to the store... that was half the reason I go to this place, I've compared your Chorizo recipe to places like Meijer and Kroger and they don't...
Read moreSeriously if you shop here. Check the expiration dates. Be very, very careful what you buy. When in and bought pork sausage 2 for $3. Get home it's expired by over a week. Expired meat. Bought Pepsi last week, tasted flat poured it out. Went back today and checked a bunch of 2 liter and 1-liter bottles. All dates for April 23 and some with May 23. VC are you specifically asking for outdated products or close to it's expiration from your suppliers? Instead of getting fresh, longer shelf time items? This is seriously ridiculous. I wonder how old the meat and deli is if everything is so outdated and expired. The store is nice, people are nice. This is absurd to have so much expired or about to expired products. The store is called VC Fresh Marketplace. Instead the store really should be called VC Expired Marketplace.
Update to Owners Response As you see the owner takes zero responsibility for his products. No responsibility for expired meat "not a best use date". An expired date. So all of your Pepsi products are close to being expired. S And we need to contact Pepsi Cola Corp over that? Again, no responsibility. You were cited Mutiple violations by in September by the State Inspection Number 76079.
1 of the many violations stated "bulk food items offered for sale in the refrigerated deli case were not date marked 7 days from the opening of the original package but were marked with the manufacturer's original...
