I’ve been driving by Flights of Fancy for a while and finally decided to give it a try. In short: keep driving by.
Our waitress was great — friendly, attentive, and took the time to explain the menu since it was our first visit. My guest ordered a burger and fries, which they really enjoyed. Unfortunately, my order of the “Special” Brazilian Ribeye was a complete disappointment. For nearly $50, I expected a quality 16 oz cut of meat. Instead, what arrived was extremely uneven, with more than half the weight made up of fat and very little edible steak.
I sent it back, expecting a simple replacement. Instead, a manager (who never introduced himself) came out, listened to my concerns, and shrugged them off with, “we don’t cut the meat, not all steaks are even.” I understand not every cut is perfect, but that’s where quality control comes in. If the steak is this poor, it should never leave the kitchen — let alone be served at a premium price point. He didn’t apologize, didn’t offer to replace the steak, and when I refused to accept it, he simply walked away.
To add to the unprofessionalism: when our meals were being delivered, the waitress stopped to have the hostess take a photo of the meal. In what world is that acceptable while guests are waiting on their food?
The second issue was with the wine flight. While I understand it comes as a preset trio, the wines were never explained — not even which was which. For a restaurant that emphasizes “flights,” that’s unacceptable.
To their credit, they did remove the ribeye and the wine flight from our bill, which was the right call. But the dismissive handling by management, lack of professionalism from staff, and poor food quality made this a...
Read moreI was really excited to try this restaurant. I have to eat a gluten-free diet, and there aren’t many restaurants that cater to this. I will give them credit for that! My server was also very nice.
I was disappointed with the experience, however. The first thing that I noticed when I walked in was the smell. It smelled faintly of sewage. It wasn’t strong, but noticeable…..and not what you should be smelling while eating a meal. The next thing I noticed was the gnat or fruit fly sitting on the table. It flew away when I was seated. Note - there was also a house fly that I had to continuously shoo away during my meal. Ok now for the food. It wasn’t bad, but not great. We got 2 for $20 pastas. Both were reheated, but they were still cold in the center. I sent mine back to heat it again. My daughter was too embarrassed to have hers heated again. Instead, she just ate it without really enjoying it. The fries were lukewarm, but not cold. I asked for ketchup & ranch for the fries. My server forgot (that’s ok), so I asked the male server who brought my reheated pasta. He gave me a dirty look and never returned. Really nice guy. I did get it from the female server when I asked her again. No big deal. The one positive thing about the meal was the dessert. The gf Reece’s peanut butter cup cheesecake was very good. I might get that to go sometime, to avoid the smell and the flies. I would not eat inside at the restaurant again, however. I would rather pick something gf (salad?) from...
Read moreThis place is NEW in Waterford so we gave it a try early this past Sunday afternoon 11am. We were the 1st patrons in so we were wondering if they were open and thankfully they were. It's a little different ordering as it's a "SMALL PLATE" restaurant/pub. The restaurant has a nice appropriate blue sky "Flight" themed décor inside as it's near the airport. The food was great and gourmet in theme but we made a rookie mistake and ordered too many things all at once. This is one of those places set up for easy socializing, enjoying a beverage and a bite to eat while doing . Our server was very attentive and helpful with the menu. I would recommend ordering from only one or two sections on their "pre-dinner" small plate menu at a time. You must pick 2 items from a section when ordering. Prices per section for 2 items range from $14-$18 per order. You can always order more as you enjoy your conversations and beverages. They have a dinner menu that starts @ 4:30pm. We'll go back for that experience. Our first experience for our visit was the food is well prepared and tasty but it's not a fill-r-up plate or serving. We ordered from 3 sections total for 2 of us and it ended up being too much food. We took some home. Your expectation should be more of a grazing and ordering as you go so you can socialize with whoever you are there with. It's a different kind of place, especially for Waterford. We liked this place and would recommend you...
