So going to a Mexican restaurant on Cinco de Mayo is no different than going to an Irish Pub & Eatery on St. Patrick's Day. It's going to be crowded, it's going to be noisy, and it's going to take longer than any other day of the year. But we went anyway because we love Mexican food.
It took awhile to get our waitress, and when she did come she was very apologetic and sweet. Asking for patience as they, like everyone else, are short-handed. It was the perfect storm of COVID created employee shortages, a holiday, and a year into vaccinations so MANY more people are out and about.
But I knew going in to this outing it would be a long night. I had no other plans but to be in the moment with my group and talk and have a good time.
Even though busy, and running around like crazy due to being the only wait staff working our entire room, Jesse was more attentive than would be expected for the constant flow of customers. I know this was a nickname because she said a few names, but with the loud volume from being so crowded, Jesse was the only one I actually heard. She even agreed to do separate checks for us even though we were a group of 10 individuals.
High praise for Jesse for making our night enjoyable while she worked her tail off. I can only hope the others in our group tipped her generously for such a great job.
Now that I have praised the service even under such stressful circumstances, on to the food:
FABulous. DeLIcious. WONderful.
In addition to being an absolute joy for the taste buds, the portions were ridiculous. As in ridiculously LARGE. The pictured burrito is ginormous. I put my fingers on it for scale, but I am not holding it. It is that plump, and PACKED with steak. I had ordered a chicken taco, ground beef tostada, cheese enchilada, and steak burrito off the a la carte menu to have a combo but skip the rice and beans. The taco, tostada, and enchilada over-stuffed me so that burrito went home. Made for a great lunch today, and was just as amazing as everything else was...if not better.
The margaritas are delicious. That's a blended mango. Medium. They have 3 sizes. And they have many flavors.
Love the place. Will be back again. ...
Read moreIn a town full of Mexican places, this one stands out. It's small, but has a menu with plenty of variety including all of the standard favorites you'd expect.
The best Al Pastor I've found in Waukesha, and I'm somewhat of a snob for Al Pastor. Their salsa verde is amazing and I'd want them to bottle it so I could have it at home, but then I wouldn't be getting their tacos. The parrillada is too much food for the price. Whenever we order that we have meals for days. It includes a huge variety of meats and veggies so each bite is different and all are good.
Their beans and rice aren't an afterthought like they can be at other places. The beans have great texture and flavor that makes you want to eat them before anything else. The rice is light and fluffy with a great salsa flavor.
They have a good bar selection but we usually get michealadas. The Beer and spice mix that they use is refreshing, delicious and exactly what we crave. They make a good Paloma and their margaritas are worthy if that's what you want.
They've had the same staff almost ever time we're there and they are attentive, friendly and make the experience just that much better.
We're not the only regulars who come in, and that's probably the biggest testament to everything about this place...
Read moreMaybe it was because we came for lunch on a Monday right after the 4th of July holiday weekend, but I was surprised at how few and far between we seemed to have our server stop by to check on us. We came in around 1pm. We expected to be out of the restaurant in about an hour (as a long lunch time). We did not get out until 2:30. We were waiting for our check and then to have it picked up with our card to be processed. I got an appetizer platter for lunch as there were no lunch specials and I did not want a large dinner-sized portion. The appetizer was rather expensive, but, I figured the variety of appetizers would be nice. I was not impressed and there were no spices or sauces to dip the items into the dish but it was kind of other bland side. The server never came by for me to ask for any type of dipping sauce or Cholula. We may go back another time closer to the end of the week to try it out again. Hopefully, it was just a fluke and I will be a...
