My wife and daughter accompanied me to Magellan's this evening, and it was perhaps the worst dining experience I've had in years. Upon arrival, we were sat in the room adjacent to the bar area, and proceeded to wait approximately 20 minutes before a young server finally showed up to take our order. I ordered a Margarita, which showed up 10 minutes later tasting like a pint of Rose's lime. I ended up ordering a Captain and Coke, which arrived yet another 10 minutes later, entirely watered down by the ice that had melted while the glass likely sat alone on the bar.
My daughter ordered their chicken tenders, while my wife and I ordered a pizza with a few appetizers to try. It took nearly 40 minutes for our food to arrive, and there were two tables occupied in the entire restaurant. The cheese curds were alright - nothing special. Unfortunately, the curds were the best part of the entire dinner. We ordered a side of fries, which arrived with about a 1/2 pint's worth of seasoned salt. The fries were literally red from seasoning, and were absolutely awful. My daughter's tenders were so overdone she choked while trying to chew them; I am a decent build of a man, and two of the tenders took nearly all my strength to tear apart with my hands. The pizza arrived so undercooked the dough was liquid in the middle, and the pieces were literally falling apart as we attempted to lift them from the plate.
I am not one to say something at a restaurant given I have a poor experience, but this place was so detestable I forced myself to speak with the server about the food. The waitress informed us that she has had complaints in the past about undercooked pizza, and apologized for the quality of the meal. The server indicated she would be speaking with a manager and letting us know what they were going to do about the bill. About 20 minutes after we spoke to the server about the food, she came back, and informed us that she could not take any food item off the bill given we had tried it. After some argument, we were able to get the pizza and the tenders removed, but they absolutely insisted we be charged for a second side of fries, as my daughter had "eaten more than half" her fries off her plate.
I am having a hard time remembering if I've ever had a poorer dining experience. My wife and I travel often, and enjoy trying a variety of new places to eat when possible. Here are things in your control that may have been a solution...inform your customers of the issue at some point throughout the course of our 90 minute wait. Don't ask me (us) what you can do for us to make it right (as our server did). I am not a beggar, I am not going to ask for something for free, and other than traveling through time and having our food come earlier, there is clearly not a better solution. It is complete BS that you would put a customer in the situation of having to make a response to such a question as presented by our server. How about, "Hey, your next drink is on us and we are so sorry." Don't make me say "hey, how about we get our next beer for free." The bartender gave us a 10% coupon for our next visit instead of just knocking off a portion of our bill (I guess we needed to specifically ask for that to happen). Your server obviously didn't get tipped, which is clearly a larger discount than the 10% off coupon your establishment offered up. It's a shame, because you have great pizza that I am willing to pay the premium overpriced cost for, and I am a frequent (and now ex-frequent) customer. Instead of honestly and sincerely sending people your way and suggesting that people go to your business, as I have been doing since the first time I visited you, I will be doing the exact opposite if I say anything at all. I literally cannot believe that we ended up paying our full bill..4 drinks, two pizza and an appetizer and full price for quite literally the worst service I have received from any restaurant in recent memory. Literally the only good thing about our visit to your restaurant on April 6th was hearing our server tell a couple of people who entered your establishment that getting their food would be about a 30 minute wait......we told them we ordered 90 minutes ago and still hadn't received our food....they walked right out....that was cathartic at least. Read moreAmazingly terrible hamburgers, french fries and pizza. Ordered 2 cheeseburgers, medium rare with fried onions and received 2, gray looking hockey pucks with no fried onions. When we talk to the server about it, he said you can't have the onions because we don't have a grill ... at which point we laughed out loud and said, then how did you cook these hamburgers? We got the French fries that were supposed to be spicy. Although the powder they dusted on there did have some spice to it, there was absolutely no salt. The pizza crust was so slimy and soft that we could not even lift a pizza off the plate for a bite. We tried a few different beers and they all tasted like the lines were dirty. In a last ditch effort, we ordered a vodka lemonade and it tasted exactly like watered down crystal light. We asked 3 different people to try it and they all said the same thing. This review cannot reach enough people to save the community as a whole so we will make sure to spread the bad word as a community service.
Just as a follow up to the management or owner's response to our review... We did bring this up to management, and were dismissed. Nice of you to attack us when we only came there because our relative was performing behind your building for friday night live. The whole family showed up and nobody enjoyed the food, but they're gonna love your response back to us even more. Sadly, for you, the family is local and has been for many, many years. So when you reach back with no concern and only attacks, it's not going to go very well for your business. Word of mouth is everything and don't sell any food that you can't prepare well.
