I wanted to check out the PF Chang's in my city since my dad and I stopped at one in Las Vegas after a concert to grab drinks and a chocolate souffle, but we didn't try the food so we decided that when we got back home to Milwaukee we'd try this PF Chang's.
Let's start with what's good. The service here is actually stellar. The waitress we had (Tammy) was super nice and helpful. We had no crazy wait for food and our drinks were mostly fine.
We ordered the Mongolian Beef, the Chicken Teriyaki and the Pork BBQ ribs appetizer. And then here's where things went downhill.
The ribs were far too sweet. While the cook on the ribs was fine, the sauce was like a syrup and was way too sweet. I've heard of sweet BBQ sauce, even tried some at my work, and this was substantially sweeter. It was way too overpowering. I don't normally complain about sweetness in food because I love my sweets and candy, but when I'm eating dinner I just want savory foods. This likely had enough sugar to count as a dessert somewhere.
I ordered Mongolian beef, and initially I was on the fence between that and the sesame beef, but I think I made the right call considering what we just had. The Mongolian Beef certainly didn't have sweetness. It wouldn't classify it as good (it was pretty bland) but it was certainly leagues better than the ribs. As sad as it is, this might be the only passable food we ate.
My dad ordered teriyaki chicken, and he told me to try some. I did, and granted it's not the worst thing I've ever eaten in life, but it was atrocious. I usually don't like teriyaki sauce because to me it's usually way too salty, and yet this tasted nothing like teriyaki sauce. This tasted like an over sweetened, syrup glaze. It was so disgusting, and I gagged a little after trying it. I can't believe that this is something being sold somewhere. Absolutely do not order this; it was foul.
One of the more disappointing things was that on the menu there was an ad for Korean fried chicken. I love fried chicken. I would have loved to try it except the ad was only for the month of November, and it's unfortunately October. It genuinely made me so sad because it really stood out on the menu as something that isn't spicy and isn't sweet.
One other thing we noticed was that the soy sauce on the table was watery. My dad is usually the one to put soy sauce on rice, and he said that it tasted like a watered down version of soy sauce you'd get at a grocery store. That seems very off, maybe it's a low sodium? Either way, they are lacking in the salt department on food at all levels and have way overdosed on sugar.
The manager for the restaurant came by. She apologized and explained that because they get their sauces in large containers and they have a sugar base that's why they are on the sweeter side. I still feel like there's a way to resolve it, but in general I hope whoever is at the top of the company really fixes the sauces, especially the teriyaki because it is terrible.
I wouldn't recommend coming here for food. Maybe the desserts and drinks would be fine, as those are quite good based on what we've tried, but the rest of the food is...

Food: the quality of food and proportion seems to vary. Each of the three times that I’ve been in the last 3 months, I’ve ordered the chicken fried rice which was great in taste all 2/3 times and the proportions weren’t the same. One of those times it just seemed overly dry. My husband ordered the pepper steak which he enjoyed. During the first trip, my husband and I shared California sushi rolls as an appetizer and they were okay. The third time we ate here, we ordered a slice of cheesecake to go. It was a huge slice that it was perfect for the both of us to enjoy when cut in half.
Service: Can vary depending on if it’s busy or not. The service was exceptional our very first time dining here. It was a pretty busy Tuesday evening, but the waitress by the name Ashe was great. The only thing she missed was providing us with silverware before our food came. She served our food and I had to go find her for silverware. However, I did notice that she was having a horrible time servicing an older couple in the booth behind us. The older woman was giving her such a difficult time about every single thing and she was very unpleased that her food took 35 mins to be made. I overheard the woman ask for the manager and the manager came and informed her that her food had just finished being made. Still upset, she went on to complain more. The manager ended up putting a comp on their bill AND giving them some kind of card or so for a free appetizer for the next visit. On the way out, the woman waited for the manager again to complain about this waitress. On my way out, I made it a point to inform the manager that she was actually a great waitress and that I would also hate to serve that couple if I worked there.
My second time dining there, I was upset because I wanted to use a $20 off reward that I had. I provided my phone number to our waitress and asked her to add the rewards on my account, then I excused myself to use the restroom. My husband paid the bill while I was using the facility and I didn’t notice until we left that she hadn’t applied the $20 reward, only a $6 savings I had on my account. On our third time dining there, we were informed that we could only use the $20 reward for an order over $40 which did not include alcohol (my husband had a glass of wine). I appreciated being informed of this which is why we added a slice of cheesecake to go.
Value: Typical dine-in costs similar to Olive Garden, Texas Roadhouse or Long Horn. They do have a small menu for a happy hour, they offer lunch specials, and you can save by being a rewards member.
Ambiance: Okay. Bar area is upon entrance. Asian style decor. Outdoor seating available. Bathrooms could use better cleaning and one stall in the women’s restroom seems to have a ‘not working’ sign on it at all times.
Location: Part of Mayfair mall, but also have their own entrance. 2500 N.Mayfair Rd,...
Read moreBeen visiting this location since I was a teenager with my parents. I’m a younger mother, and I now bring my children as my oldest LOVES Asian cuisine. Today we did take out for the first time since Covid. I have never had any issues with food, service, anything.
We ordered at 1:45, pick up time was 2:13pm. We ordered & paid online. Around 2:15pm I called in and asked could it be brought curbside since we already paid. The staff that answered said our food was not ready but that she would bring it out once it was. At 2:30, no food as of yet. I decided to run inside.
Our food was sitting at the register unattended, waiting. No waiting customers in the lobby. Half empty restaurant. Bartended didn’t even have any drink orders as she was just wiping the bar down. The staff at the door is the same staff member that answered the phone. I told her my name and she handed me the order. No apologies for the wait, or for agreeing to bring out an order that she didn’t remember to take out. I get to the car to check the order, and I’m missing an entree.
At this point, aggravated, having to wake my youngest up again, I run back inside with the kids. We wait about 5-7 minutes for a manager. Meanwhile, front end staff are just talking amongst themselves and enjoying the free time. I didn’t get his name, but he was very well spoken, an older gentleman. I explained the issue of staff lacking attentiveness, our missing entree, having to wake up my child twice to come in here, the entire inconvenience of it all just for a to go order. If I wanted to come inside twice I would have dined in. But that’s why I paid ahead of time. Anyways, he brought out my food right away and provided me with a complimentary gift card.
Because I enjoy the food so much, I will be back. Will I be a bit apprehensive? Yes. I might just come by myself or with my fiancé because I’d hate to put my kids through this again even though they love the food. I guess we will have to see.
I appreciate the managers promptness to rectify the issue and make it a bit better.
Our food was tasty, fresh, and my newly brought out order was piping hot… as for the food that had to wait, wasn’t so warm but it...
