Went to tavern grille this morning for their brunch buffet. The price for the buffet is $25. My husband and I did not think that was too bad if they had a good selection of food that tasted good as well. I got a Bloody Mary and my husband got a mimosa. My Bloody Mary was $13 dollars and his mimosa was $10. A little spendy for drinks but actually, this was the best part of our meal. They offer omelettes made by order and cinnamon rolls by order as well. We ordered cinnamon rolls, thinking that if you need to order them from your waitress that they’re homemade. Nope. Maybe one step above Walmart’s cinnamon rolls. They also offer different fruits and pastries and a salad. All of those were surprisingly enjoyable. 2 breakfast meats that either didn’t taste like anything of seemed under cooked. 2 different kinds of scrambled eggs. Both were wildly under seasoned, they tasted actually like nothing. Even though one of them was supposed to be southwestern, I believe. Biscuits and gravy that claim they are supposed to be spicy, but aren’t. The biscuits were more akin to buns? Under seasoned cheesy hashbrowns. They had a pancake station that was so underwhelming. And a prime rib carving station, that actually was so good. The only problem with the carving station was the person working it. Although I do understand we are human and have bodily functioned, I don’t believe it to be very polite to burp loudly while helping a customer. I may try Tavern Grille again once they have developed themselves a little more, and I’m told the lunch and dinner are good, but maybe hold off on the wildly over record...
Read moreMy girlfriend and I went here for a postponed Valentine’s Day dinner on Sunday the 16th. We both work at restaurants in town and we hate doing this but it was a very upsetting experience. We love trying new places so this was our first time. We sat down and waited for 15 minutes with no server, finally we asked a server walking by if we could get one and her immediate response was “Well that’s the bars job, but I guess I can take you.” She took our orders and came back 5 minutes later and asked again “have you been helped yet,” seeming to forget she just helped us.After that our food came out and we still had not even gotten our waters or drinks yet. The manager did come by but we just wanted to enjoy dinner and move on so we didn’t make a scene. The sever barely came to check on us or ask for refills and even the few times she did she said 1-3 words. After I had asked for a refill of my water, she came back with my water as well as the check even if we had just taken a few bites of our food. This really upset us because we know common restaurant courtesy, and bringing a bill without asking when we still were eating over half of our meal is just wrong. After that, I found a hair in my salad which just did not help with the night. It’s sad because the food was truly good but it feels like we cannot come back because of how awful the...
Read moreThe wife and I have been wanting to go here since it opened 2 weeks ago. It's been packed at dinner time, so we decided to go around 2 pm to avoid the crowds.
Upon entering, it's a nice restaurant. Nothing stands out about the decor, but it's nice. They have a full service bar, too.
We sat down and ordered an appetizer of Bang Bang Shrimp. Then entrees of a Smash Burger and French dip sandwich. We also ordered 2 cups of French onion soup, our personal favorite.
The Bang Bang Shrimp was a 5 star dish. It's absolutely phenomenal. Maybe the best appetizer in all of Sioux Falls. The Smash Burger and French Dip were good. Nothing that blew my socks off. It's just really good above average bar food. French Onion soup was good. I've eaten a lot of French onion soups in my day, and I've never had one that had an almost clear/tannish broth. It is always very dark amber colored. It was good, though.
I did think it's overpriced by about $4-$5 an item. We ordered 1 app, 2 soup and sandwiches and water, and it was $65 without a tip. I think it should be more towards $50. With a 20% tip, it was almost $80.
While the place is good, it'll be a one and done for us. Besides the shrimp app, the other food doesn't make me want to come back for a round 2. If you haven't tried it, I'd suggest at least...
