Incompetence at Its Finest- We decided to throw a surprise retirement dinner for a coworker and thought that Lupe Tortilla would be the perfect spot. Knowing that the party would be around 15 and that we wanted to have the dinner on Friday night, I called ahead and asked to make a reservation. The only way the restaurant would make a reservation was for us to book the fiesta room which is a mandatory $500 bill with a specific platter we had to order. We weren’t sure at the time of the call that we would spend $500 for dinner, so we passed on the fiesta room and decided that one of us would get there early to reserve the table. I arrived 1 hour and 15 minutes before the decided time (the time we told the guest of honor). At check in, the hostess was visibly annoyed that I was requesting a table for 15 and said it would be a 45 minute wait. I said ok. I had a cake and flowers and no one offered to put the cake in a refrigerator for me. Most restaurants take cakes immediately from patrons. While waiting there was space on the side patio and I asked if we could be seated there, but I was told that they do not seat in that area and that she was going to seat us in the front inside room. At the 45 minute mark, I went to go check to see if our table was almost ready and saw the tables ready in the front room that was promised. At that point I was told that it would be 15 more minutes. Meanwhile they sat another party in that front room the hostess said she would seat our party. 15 minutes later, I went back to check and they said it would take a bit longer. The guest of honor came and we had to reveal the surprise in the waiting area. After 1 hour and 15 minutes of waiting, I went to go check again and was told that we could be seated right away if we were okay with not sitting together. Why would we want to sit separately? After multiple checkins and more run around concerning the number of chairs and table placements, at the 2 hour waiting mark, we were told that they couldn’t give us a wait time because they had to wait for people to finish eating, yet they continued to sit people in places where we could have been sat. At that point we left and took our business somewhere else. The manager never came out to apologize. I will never go back to Lupe Tortilla again and will tell anyone who listens to go anywhere else. This is the worst restaurant experience we have ever experienced in the Webster area. If I could give zero stars, I would. Take your business somewhere else. There are plenty of delicious Mexican restaurants in the area that have better service and actually value...
Read moreVentured out for lunch yesterday, and decided on Lupe Tortilla because of all the positive reviews. It’s set back a good ways off Bay Area Blvd, but there is a sign close to the road to help you find it. The parking lot is HUGE, and the restaurant has a very large deck making it a perfect option during the pandemic and beyond. The hostess was disinfecting the menus when I went to request a table, and we were seated immediately. We received a salsa that was a bit more loose than normal and a small cup of pinto beans as well with chips. Both of these were delicious. We ordered the Chile con quest with taco meat for an appetizer, and it was also good. It’s a yellow queso, which is not usually my favorite, but it had great flavor and came with a side of pickled jalapeños to allow you to get our dip to the heat level you wanted. I ordered the Classic Texas’-Mex off the speciality section of the menu. Our server made sure it was okay to put the grilled onions on the dish before putting in the order. The enchiladas were delicious and slathered in cheese and sauce, and while the refried beans were by far the most bland I have had in town (sorry, Lupe Tortilla) the rice, which I usually despise at all places, was the best I have ever had. Very spicy and flavorful! While waiting for our food and enjoying our queso, two elderly women were getting up from their table and about to leave with two large to-go bags that our server brought to them. He proceeded to help them up and carry the bags for them to the car. We received great service from the entire restaurant, and this act of kindness made it even more clear that this place has exceptional customer service. I cannot wait to come back and try more dishes on their menu.
PS: They have free wi-fi for you to enjoy as well! and an extensive...
Read moreGot there at 4:45 and waited until 6:00 to order besides being seated at 5:30. We were told it would be a 45 minute wait and that was not a problem. What was a problem was the speed of service and wialitof service we received upon being served. Once we finally ordered, we didn't get our food until 6:45. Keep in mind this is with two little ones in our party of 9, so already by this point they are going crazy. When the food came out, it came out staggered, meaning half of our party was served while the other half still had nothing in front of them. To go even further, the staff completely forgot to place one of the orders from a member in our group, and no one came to talk to him about it (after several times asking for an update on his food) until everyone else was finished eating. He was forced to sit there the entire time waiting for his order while the rest of us are and offered him ours, which is terrible. The head chef came out and asked, "What seems to be the problem?" completely unaware of the fact that his kitchen staff did not even start on his order for about 30 minutes. He told him to just serve it in a box to go because everyone will be ready to leave by the time he gets it, and he was correct. Overall, a 45 minute wait turned into 2 hours of waiting to be served and 45 mins of waiting for food to be delivered. It tasted great, sure, but it was not worth the stress and we will not ever be...
