Wikipedia was launched on January 15, 2001, and was created by Jimmy Wales and Larry Sanger.14] Sanger coined its name[15 as a portmanteau of the words "wiki" (Hawaiian for "quick")17] and "encyclopedia". Initially an English-language encyclopedia, versions of Wikipedia in other languages were quickly developed. With 6.1 million articles, the English Wikipedia is the largest of the more than 300 Wikipedia encyclopedias. Overall, Wikipedia comprises more than 54 million articles[18] attracting 1.5 billion unique visitors per month.[19

In 2005, Nature published a peer review comparing 42 hard science articles from Encyclopædia Britannica and Wikipedia and found that Wikipedia's level of accuracy approached that of Britannica,21] although critics suggested that it might not have fared so well in a similar study of a random sampling of all articles or one focused on social science or contentious social issues.[22 The following year, Time magazine stated that the open-door policy of allowing anyone to edit had made Wikipedia the biggest and possibly the best encyclopedia in the world, and was a testament to the vision of Jimmy Wales.24]

Wikipedia has been criticized for exhibiting systemic bias and for being subject to manipulation and spin in controversial topics;[25] Edwin Black has criticized Wikipedia for presenting a mixture of "truth, half truth, and some falsehoods".[26] Wikipedia has also been criticized for gender bias, particularly on its English-language version, where the dominant majority of editors are male. However, edit-a-thons have been held to encourage female editors and increase the coverage of women's topics.[27 Facebook announced that by 2017 it would help readers detect fake news by suggesting links to related Wikipedia articles. YouTube announced a similar plan...

The "Texas Avenue Park" entrance is sprinkled with Colorful flowers, grasses, bushes & palms and Welcomes you right in through the Grand Arch! This is a Sweet Little Park in the Medical District of Clear Lake. It is across the street from the Post Office and the Main Entrance to Clear Lake Hospital on Texas Avenue. It nice to see that the Park Employees are always there keeping the park clean with a friendly smile & hello. The Big Beautiful Shade trees are a Welcome Respite from the Hot Texas Sun. Bring a sack lunch, sit, relax, listen to the birds sing & hear the laughter of children...Oh, & remember to bring Lemonade for old time sake! This Sweet Little Park has playgrounds, covered basketball courts, baseball fields, tennis courts, walking trails, bathrooms, covered picnic tables, park benches & grassy knolls to romp around, play & lay upon. Always a great place to go with friends and family. There are some charcoal grills scattered around the park in case you want to grill out, and there's a pavilion you can reserve for parties and big get-togethers. There's a covered basketball court too, which is pretty active usually in case you're looking for a pick-up game. A trail encircles the park if you want to walk, and there's both a playground and splash pad for kids. Other amenities include some tennis courts and a baseball field in the back. There are 2 parking lots - 1 near the basketball court and another near the tennis courts. A bathroom and water fountain are near the center. Overall, I would say the park is pretty well maintained and good...

This park is an absolute favorite of ours! Beat the expensive light prices at all of the other places and come stroll through the park for free and take photos with the lights! This park has a little bit of something for everyone. There is a covered picnic area that can be rented out for parties. They have a covered basketball court with several nets. A nice pathway that goes along the whole park, handicapable accessible. During the summer months there is also a splash pad. There is two tennis courts, a baseball field, and also a playground for the kiddos to play on. Unfortunately the playground is a little too big for toddlers but it was perfect for my older ones.

4th of July celebration. There were many activities for kids which I believe were free. Face painting, balloon animals, rock climbing and pony rides to name a few. There were food trucks right outside the park entrance in the front parking lot. There were also food and drink booths inside the park. They all range in price per the individual sellers. Bring a blanket or lawn chair(preferably) and sit where you like. Get there earlier to find a close parking spot. Many adjacent buildings where you can park as they are closed at night. Actual fireworks started at 9:10pm. Display lasted 30 minutes.
