Old review: Great food and fast service. Great staff. Well worth the price vs value of food.
Edit/New Review So when I first moved to Webster/Clear Lake area about 4 or 5 years ago, my wife who was a native of the area introduced me to Mamacita's. It was quickly our "go-to" place to eat due to the quality of the food, service and the price of the meals. Recently (and this could be due to the issues from 2020) all of these things have changed. My wife went there about a month ago and had terrible service and food. We wrote this as a one off (these things happen occasionally) and today we went there as well at 2 p.m. They weren't exclusively crowded and we were seated as usual. After getting our drinks (just water) we waited over ten minutes for the waiter to return to ask for our first order. We ordered a half order of queso and when it eventually made it's way to us (another ten minutes) the fried/cut tortilla's were completely stale. When the wait staff showed again, I requested a replacement and received it and though they did not have the consistency of cardboard like the first set, they were room temperature and unappealing. The queso itself when it first arrived was room temp but it was cold at this point. We shrugged this off, had our orders taken and... nothing. My wife ordered a strawberry magarita that never came. Twenty minutes passed with not so much as a check in when we finally decided to call it quits. While we're up front wanting to settle for the queso the waiter (assumingly) sees we have left our seats and finds us up front at the register. He asks us if we're still going to pay for the food that he just now is bringing. My wife (already flustered/upset as it is her birthday today..) just agrees and pays for it to go. Looking to the back her Magarita is sitting on a bar table with no patrons or staff around all by itself. Waiter attempted to leave the magarita on the tab until I mentioned for it to be taken off as we never received it either. We do not live too far from the place itself so upon getting home to look at the food the portions and they..do not look the best. I called the restaurant and explained the situation, offering to take the untouched food back up there and asking for a refund. To his credit Rudy ( I believe that was his name) offered a full refund and apologies as they are dealing with a new point of sale/bump system. Understandable but I am feeling pretty burnt and extremely disappointed
Perhaps I will update this later to reflect a different score after the issues have been settled but that may not be for...
Read moreWe have been customers here for many years. It is your basic casual, noisy, everyday, local Mexican food restaurant. The food is good but the service has always been very good and friendly. The service is why we (until today) have frequented this restaurant for about 15 years.
The manager (in my opinion) is horrible. Apparently, table turnover is at the top of his agenda. We had a long business lunch here today and apparently we were there too long but rather than talking to us, the manager instructed our waiter to clear our table and ignore refills for water or drinks. We asked if there was a problem and were ignored. We asked to speak to the manager and were ignored.
We went back into the restaurant after our guests left and again asked to speak to the manager. We asked by we were treated that way and asked why he wasn’t willing to talk to us about any issue he had with us being at the table for that long and then we were basically told “sorry you feel that way” which is absolutely a non- apology. He was rude and dismissive.
To fully paint the picture, it was a long business lunch with four people. We had two margaritas each over a four hour (admittedly long) business lunch. We ordered food, appetizers, water, sodas etc. No one was intoxicated. No one was up from the table or causing any trouble. We probably, at times, laughed or spoke loudly. It is a noisy restaurant. If I thought anyone was out of line, I wouldn’t question how we were treated but that wasn’t the case. Apparently we were just there too long. Even though we tried to order more drinks, water, sodas, and appetizers but were quite literally ignored and had the table completely cleared without asking. They literally took the chips and salsa while someone was trying to eat a chip. It was a clear get out of here message.
We will absolutely never go back to this restaurant again. There are a dozen better restaurants within five minutes. We have been loyal customers for many many years but clearly (you will see that mine is by far not the only review to say this) this restaurant doesn’t care about loyalty. They want 30 minute table turnovers and that’s it.
So if you want mediocre Mexican food and passive aggressive service, this might be your place. It won’t...
Read moreThis was our first time eating at Mamacitas-the one near NASA. We would have had a great time, but the waiter made the experience awful. He didn't start out the conversation with the "hi, I'm blank" so we didn't get his name. With his attitude the whole time I can see why he probably doesn't do that. The only way I can identify him is that he appeared to be blind/hard of seeing in one eye. He got our drinks which was no red flag. He took our orders, didn't write it down, which isn't a big deal, but he did have to come back a moment later and ask us both questions about our order that we already stated-like if we wanted chicken or beef. He brought us our food. After that we didn't see him till the bill. We didn't get a chance to refill our chips/salsa and someone else-not sure if it was another waiter, finally offered to refill my husbands drink for him. So it wasn't a terrible experience, but could have been better. Not asking for over the top service, but he did bare minimum. Drink order, food order, and bill so the actually waiting on us part was in short supply. Someone else had to provide us the extras-refills etc. So we didn't feel he deserved above and beyond tip. We tipped about 9% since it was all in cash and told him we didn't need change. He comes back after doing the check and asks us again "so you don't need change?" It was obvious to me it was a rhetorical question, because the extra tip cash that went along with the bill was in ones so he didn't have to break any big bills. He proceeds to walk away grunting and shaking his head and stands next to the kitchen door about 10ish feet from our table continuing shaking his head, talking to the staff and looking and pointing directly at us. You don't automatically deserve a big tip. Tipping is based off of what is provided. Bare minimum and grumpy effort won't get far with customers. Plus it will teach him bare minimum and grumpy effort will get a tip no matter what so then why put in an effort? We knew he had an attitude from the beginning, but he proved that our perceived notion of him was correct. Couldn't imagine someone my father's age acting like that in public. Probably wouldn't go back to at least...
