Drove by this food trailer on our adventures in Maine last week. Talked about for a few miles, then decided we needed to turn around and give it a try, knowing that sometimes these small roadside stands are fantastic. We pulled in about 2:45pm, just before the 3pm closing. Chef Jacques side he was out of crepes, but still had chowder, so we each ordered a bowl of clam chowder. In just a few minutes, he ladled up 2 good size servings, maybe a cup and a half? We sat in the shade at one of the picnic tables, and WOW! These bowls were delicious, and loaded with clams! After a few spoonfuls each, we looked at each other and nearly simultaneously said: “best clam chowder I’ve ever had”! Partway thru our bowls, Chef Jacques walked over to see how we liked it - we both told him it was the best clam chowder we’ve ever had. He smiled, and thanked us for stopping by, and seemed genuinely glad we liked his chowder. We listened to a few stories, shared a few laughs, and took this picture...
Read moreDays are numbered. Get the seafood chowder at Chef Jaques Crepe Wagon Soup total: $10 plus tax Open: Seasonal. Closing Oct 30th Seating: outdoor Parking: off-street Order: 1 bowl of seafood chowder
Pros: I never expect seafood chowder on a menu. Usually it's only clam chowder. When I took a leap of faith on a perfect fall day, I found possibly the best seafood chowder I've ever had. Lobster, shrimp, multiple scallops, haddock, celery, the kitchen sink?! Amazing. Split a crepe with someone and you won't leave hungry (about $12 each).
Cons: Cash only. Also Chef Jaque makes everything from scratch and wants you to enjoy your time at his wagon. Don't stop here if you want a quick in and out. This is a great stop if you want to enjoy a beautiful day and some great eats outside. Also, the ocean may run out of fish soon with the amount Chef is using in...
Read moreAbsolutely would NOT recommend. The owner was very rude to my mother who is disabled with a cane. When she was surprised after waiting in line for a long time that the crepes were sold out, the owner said, exact quote: “you can’t go hobbling around and not talk to the chef.” As if we were supposed to come from the back of the line and ask if he expected to have crepes left for us. Which is absolutely ridiculous. We recognize he’s doing his best and we just wanted to know if we needed to leave and find food elsewhere and he berated my disabled mother. Totally discriminatory and ridiculously rude. Even if the crepes are amazing- which we can’t tell you since he yelled at us before we could even attempt to try - we will not be returning to someone who clearly is ableist and needs to get his attitude in check before he discriminated against...
