We chose this place randomly, but we were also intrigued that it's a former Sharis building (I like the architectural style). I was quite pleased with the atmosphere of the place (paint colors, decor and the tile flooring), the music, and the friendly greeting when we entered. I was quickly impressed when we got to the menu. It's been a while since we've been to a Mexican restaurant with so many wonderful options. My husband got the Pollo Mole and a tamale (a personal favorite), and I got the crab enchiladas with the seafood cream sauce, which sounded delectable, and is something I've never seen on a menu at any restaurant I've been to in the past. I was not disappointed! The enchiladas and that cream sauce were delicious! Actually, I wish I'd eaten them more slowly, soas to truly savor each bite. He was really happy with the tamale, which was nice to hear, because he loves GOOD tamales, but ends up disappointed more often than not. The Mole was also quite tasty! A little sweeter than average, but definitely not in a bad way. We finished the meal with fried ice cream, which they served in a tortilla bowl with a strawberry sauce, a tasteful amount of whipped cream and chocolate on top. It was perfect in e very way, and we left with pleasantly full stomachs and happy taste buds! 10/10 we will eat here again, and recommend this restaurant to anyone who enjoys...
Read moreI can see from the other reviews that we are in the minority (but just random bad luck), but we are giving up on this place. The value just isn't there. Twice in a row, we have paid around $40 for two people to eat and have left feeling ripped off.
We used to like it, but we really expect more from a restaurant at this price point. Last night, our fajitas ranged between overcooked and burnt... and honestly even if they had been cooked correctly, we got a pop, split an order of fajitas, and a beer, and it came out to over $40 after the tip (the service was good). For $20 a person in Wenatchee, we really expect better food quality than that.
The second-to-last time we were here, we ordered take-out. Once again, it was around $40 and we were not even given enough food for two people. We were still hungry afterward (and since it was take-out, we didn't even get drinks!). There are many Mexican restaurants in Wenatchee where you will be happy and leave full at half that price -- Taco Loco and Rinconsito, among others. El Portón is on the pricey side too, but at least the food quality and quantity are consistent.
In the spirit of finding something nice to say, the service is always very good at Ay Caramba. The waitstaff is prompt, professional, attentive,...
Read moreThe environment here is great and the food is pretty good too. Portion of carne asada was pretty small but well-cooked and very tasty. One of the waiters is not very good at smiling which is always the one that I get. The problem with most restaurants these days are when the waiter has a Hostess and someone cleaning up after him I'm really not sure what their exact job is other than to bring the food to the table. This one had the same issue he forgot to bring utensils served the drinks without any napkins and didn't bother to bring the bill or offer a box. I complained to the owner about this particular waiter because I was a waitress myself and I didn't think that he overcame his inadequacies because a simple smile would have done wonders. Look out for the solemn face chubby waiter he doesn't try too hard to look friendly and then when I paid the bill he had the nerve to drum his fingers on the cash register...
