Viggiano's on Sunset is a great restaurant. Our waiter Matt was very well spoken and attentive and offered great suggestions. This was the first time my wife and I had visited Cape May, and we made the correct choice to have a meal here to celebrate our anniversary. My wife had the Penne Rigata with shrimp and roasted peppers, and I had the Chicken Parmesan with a side of penne pasta and a meatball and a side salad. Both were picollo size and that mattered as I could not finish my meal. I could only imagine how much food they would have brought if we chose the Grande size. We both enjoyed what we ordered as it all reminded us of a local Italian restaurant at home. The food was just as good if not better (shoutout to Vesuvio's). The only drawback to our meal was where we were seated. Since I remember writing when I made reservations that it was our anniversary, we both had hoped for a quiet setting. What we got was a close 4-top table with one loud member and when another couple entered the restaurant and were seated close to the 4-top, who would have guessed that both table guests knew each other, and hence they became even louder. Not the establishments fault for rude guests because not only were my wife and I disturbed, but other guests across the restaurant were also looking at those 2 tables. I will not deduct any stars as the food was delicious. Hopefully the next time we are in Cape May and dine here we will have better luck getting a more...
Read moreAte here last night and will never go again. It all started with the host who was nothing but rude and put the blame on us because he messed up and set up a table without the high chair we needed. Which truly was no big deal, a 5 second fix but he made it seem like a catastrophe. He insisted that we didn't say we needed one when making the reservation, but we definitely did. As we walk away he says to his staff "that was my mistake" thinking no one in our party heard. So we already didn't start off on the right foot. After we were seated, we were greeted by our waiter, who was very nice and had great customer service!
However that didn't make up for the food. The fresh homemade mozzarella was overly salted in the roasted red pepper appetizer we got. I then asked while ordering if they had gluten free pasta the waiter was very nice and knew my sauce also had to change from the meal I ordered due to that having gluten. Again, waiter was great! The food came out and one of the dishes the food was clearly cooked in burnt or reused oil. The garlic was also burnt in one of the dishes. My gluten free meal tasted off, the seafood was way too salty and you could tell it was cooked in old or reused oil. Everyone else agreed their meal was off and didn't taste the best. If you're looking for a good authentic Italian food, don't go here. We should have taken it as a sign that on a Friday night there were empty tables...
Read moreWe had high hopes after reading many good reviews. Unfortunately, we did not have a good experience. The host was very friendly and our waiter was WONDERFUL! He was kind, funny, and very knowledgeable. The food on the other hand was extremely disappointing.
The bread that came out was just a small loaf which looked like it was from a grocery store and had no butter or anything that came with it and it didn't have much taste at all. We had the green salad, which was very good, but pretty overpriced for a salad. The entrees were pretty terrible, to be honest. I had penne with shrimp and roasted peppers which had no presentation at all and tasted like pasta with oil that was heated up in a microwave. I had to dump a ton of parmesan cheese on it to give it the slightest flavor. Very bland. My husband had the cavatappi in pomodoro sauce and it was pretty bad. Again, not much flavor and what flavor there was was not good. The vegetables were not good at all in the dish and were tough to eat. This was very disappointing for a place with these prices. I'm not sure how it has so many good reviews. I hope they read these reviews and listen to customers to improve...
