Alliance Bakery — Grand — Restaurant in West Chicago Township

We ordered a themed cake from Alliance Bakery and spent between $500–$600, expecting something visually impressive and delicious given their reputation. Unfortunately, the result was disappointing.

The design was pretty lackluster — I’d give it a 4/10. It was just “okay” and honestly looked like something we could’ve picked up from a grocery store. For a bakery known for detailed, high-end designs, this felt like a letdown. It seems unless you’re spending $1,000 or more, they don’t put much effort into the final product.

The taste of the cake was also unremarkable — not terrible, but definitely not special or memorable in any way.

To top it off, the bakery was resistant to providing a design mockup unless we were spending over $1,000, according to the staff we spoke to on the phone. That policy felt frustrating and made the experience feel transactional rather than thoughtful.

I ordered a cake for my daughter's birthday, I thought it was going to be good but it wasn't, a terrible experience!!! I was unfortunately, very disappointed in how the cake came out. The frosting itself was grainy and very sugary and the back of the heart it had folds making it seem like the cake was going to collapse. On the top part where the number were placed there was a big bubble. In the photo you can hardly see it but it looked horrible. For an $180 cake I think it was too much. I contacted them and the response they gave me was that they don’t receive any complaints. They didn't believe me. I spoke to the owner, Peter , and told me that he could give me some credit but not a refund. I paid a lot for this cake and it went straight to the trash. They also put the wrong number on the cake when I went to pick it up, so I had to wait, he said it was my mistake that I said that number. There was many mistakes made and I definitely won’t be coming back or recommend...

Disappointed after trying this location for the first time.

🥐 Almond croissant: stale. Literally the worst I've had bc it was dense and hard.

🥐 Butter croissant: average. Moist inside, noticeably smaller than next door bakery, but likely also cheaper. I didn't get a receipt.

🍰 Tiramisu: leaked liquid all over the box?! Never had that happen before. Didn't taste; it was for someone else.

🍰 Sofia: looked better than it tasted. Had it a few days later for a celebration, so the exterior was tough and gummy. Possibly my fault for not eating it ASAP.

I've visited the other location years ago but didn't remember much, so I swung by on 1pm Saturday. Store was empty (#1🚩) and croissants were in the refrigerated pastry case (#2🚩)?!
