Waited 20 minutes to even be greeted at our table, had empty coffee, water the whole time other than finally getting our servers attention to ask for refills and when we requested a refill it took 5 minutes for them to come back.
Ordered 2 steak and egg dishes, one steak came out twice the size of the other with more mushrooms than I'd care to count, while the other had all of 5 diced up mushrooms on it. And the steak wasn't even half the size of the other one. I asked the server why 1 steak was half the size of the other with so little mushrooms and it was the same exact dish on the menu, and she said something along the lines of, "I'm not sure. Sorry about that" and walked away.
Then I got her attention since she didn't offer to do anything as a remedy and told her to send it back and I would refrain from getting anything else because I didn't want to spend the same amount for a steak that was half the size of the other or wait for another dish while my family was already eating.
A manager never came to the table to try and smooth things over or check on us. Kinda left the server out to dry. And the server even came to the table to charge for the item when everyone was done and one of us went without eating when we sent the plate back and didn't touch it. So we had to request to have the item removed from the check and they did that. But still no manager came.
I tipped the server still but no resolution was given. Just kinda felt like they are all too busy to really care about the experience.
Maybe it was an off day but as the one who payed for everyone to eat and to give my dad a good dining experience on Father's day, this was not a good experience for me.
I dont think I'd go back after having to fork over so much money for a lame experience and a staff that in my opinion didn't handle the...
Read moreThis place NEVER disappoints. I literally come here for breakfast every chance I get!
Location: I understand there are multiple locations for this business, however this is the only one I've been to and I believe the original location (I could be wrong). Its located on the northwest corner of Grand and Wood. The area is full of galleries and industrial style buildings with pockets of residential buildings. Close to wicker park and noble square.
Ambiance: I LOVE the outside patio situation they have going, its awesome and shaded. Two separate spaces on either side of the restaurant. I'm not sure if the larger patio space is new due to the pandemic but its a great addition to their outside seating situation! They keep fresh flowers and its got the perfect sun/shade ratio. The inside is bright, warm and inviting with a front seating area and a back seating area.
Staff: There is a host stand usually outside (weather permitting) and someone to greet you when you approach with a smile. I have to be honest, I have even showed up 30 min before close (yes I know, not cool) and they did not even flinch at my request to sit. The servers are usually friendly and knowledgeable about the menu items.
Food: There is not a single item on this menu that I have disliked. I haven't tried everything but the items I have tried: chicken and waffles, chorizo hash, steak and eggs, pancakes, french toast, and more, have all been delicious. Nothing was overpriced, everything was priced as it should be. They also have surprisingly good lattes, like better than some coffee shops.
I love bringing my friends and family here. When I have friends visit from out of town I take them here for a classic breakfast. Love this place and love that its...
Read moreI stopped in for brunch with friends on a Sunday afternoon. I must say that I was absolutely impressed with the quality of the food, presentation, and service. There were a total of 8 of us for brunch, so I placed a reservation two days in advance which I highly recommend if it's a large group. Otherwise, a table for 2 -4 people can take anywhere from 10-30 minutes walk-in. Also, for payment they can split the bill up to three different ways, so keep that in mind.We ordered various items from the menu. I had Special Sweet French toast with Dulce de leche, the Andoullie chicken sausage side, and freshly squeezed orange juice. The food was delicious and the orange juice was definitely freshly squeezed! Two friends ordered the Chorizo hash and it was flavorful and tasty. Another friend ordered the Traditional Eggs Benedict and mentioned that it was one of the best he has had in the city! A friend ordered the Huevos Rancheros and was very happy with his order. An order was placed for the Vegan chorizo hash and it was delicious! Lastly, someone in our group ordered the Fresh Fruit parfait and they were happy with their order. The presentation for all the dishes was beautiful and none of the dishes disappointed. I happened to sample most of them! I highly recommend Breakfast House and I cannot wait to go back to try more items...
