I've done dine-in and takeout. Service is fine, food is decent, prices are quite affordable. It's a very casual setting. I really had no issues at all with dine-in. They even do gorditas and sopes, which a surprising number of Mexican restaurants in Chicago are too lazy to do. I'm glad they're here and do plan to patronize this place in the future. Also, my husband has some dietary restrictions, and they helped us avoid those and kind of made a mishmash suggestion for him, which I really appreciated.
I am however taking a star away for a pretty frustrating take-out experience. I wanted to order through their website because I know third-party apps take a significant cut, but when I did that there was a fee of $1.75 just to place the order through their own website. To their credit, they left the prices the same on third-party apps, which restaurants often inflate. I decided to save myself the fee and order through that. I picked it up when it said my order is ready and I took it home to realize that despite ordering the "dinner combo" version of the item, the sides are actually not included, and since I ordered through a separate app, that's who I contacted. I think the problem was that they didn't set it up to differentiate the order between the a la carte item and the meal combo version on doordash. On the receipt it said "gordita", but I think it wasn't clear to the folks in the kitchen who received the order that that was under the subheading that made it a combo/dinner, so essentially I was just missing half my food.
In the future I'll either not order the combo, just try to call the order in, or specify in the notes. But I think whoever set up the online services should take another look to remove ambiguity between similar orders. I don't blame the cooks for being confused when the only thing that would have differentiated the two versions is the price, and I'm not sure they even see that. But it was still pretty frustrating to be expecting a whole meal and only get half.
Regardless, mistakes happen. I'm glad they're around, and I hope they improve online ordering because I plan to dine in and order...
Read moreThe gauging with pricing at restaurants like this one in bucktown is ridiculous! Also, if you are going jack up the prices then you should keep your website menus up to date! It's very misleading to new customers if you are not posting accurate prices on your website period! Also, it's clear this is happening across the country but we need to remind restaurants that it's not ok to short us when it comes to food quality and quantity while increasing prices! For example: this place doesn't add enough meat or fillings so when you bite into the burrito you get several layers of folded doughy tortilla which is pretty gross. Also, your up charge of $5.00 for skirt steak is robbery especially if you are not filling the burrito with a reasonable amount of meat to begin with! Your website menu shows a 3 taco dinner for $13.99 and then a premium 3 taco dinner at $18.99. However, when we arrived to your restaurant both dinners increased with the premium dinner starting at $20.99 plus your absurd upcharge of $5.00 for skirt steak option. So $25..99 for a mediocre 3 taco dinner? What's the premium price for if you still have to upcharge another $5? Also, their plate portions are small on huge oval plates. Lastly, regarding the young lady that served us today: She should be able to speak and communicate clearly as well as make ALL your customers feel welcomed! My friend was more than generous when he paid and tipped very well for our meals even if after she ignored him and didn't acknowledge his presence or ask him if he needed anything. This restaurant needs to hire a more experienced and welcoming server that can speak english fluently enough to know what Skirt Steak is or you will lose many customers. So not sure if it was a language barrier or if she just didn't give two flying fig newtons to...
Read moreI stumbled upon Huaraches Mexican Restaurant just 30 minutes before they were set to close, and what a delightful find it turned out to be! Not only did I discover a new gem in the neighborhood, but I was also treated to an exceptional dining experience.
Initially, I had my heart set on ordering Huevos Rancheros from their full menu, but to my disappointment, they don't serve breakfast all day. However, the disappointment was short-lived as I was greeted by Erika, who I believe is the manager and an absolute ray of sunshine.
Opting for the carne asada tacos dinner with cilantro and onions only, along with a large horchata, I was blown away by the freshness of every bite. The food was prepared to perfection, and there was not a single thing I could find fault with.
What truly stood out was the warm and welcoming hospitality of Erika. She was a sweetheart who made me feel like an honored guest. Her genuine care and attention to detail were evident in every aspect of the restaurant. From the spotless cleanliness to the beautifully prepared dishes, it's clear that she takes immense pride in ensuring her guests have an unforgettable experience.
Huaraches Mexican Restaurant is more than just a place to dine; it's a testament to the dedication and passion of its team, with Erika leading the way. I left with a full belly and a heart warmed by the hospitality I received.
In a neighborhood with many dining options, Huaraches Mexican Restaurant has earned my loyalty, and I can't wait to return to explore more of their menu and savor the fresh...
