Cute little bistro/ restaurant/wine bar in Wicker Park right next to Le Bouchon. I was super excited to find out my lovely server was someone I already knew from Lakeview East because we had met multiple times before while walking my pup.
Restaurant is super cozy and is a Michelin style experience that caters mostly to wine drinkers and people seeking haute cuisine and charcuterie boards.
I chose the hangar steak which was accompanied by vegetables and potato 🥔 gnocchi. The meal was delicious--i just wish there had been more of it to enjoy and I wish there had been a bread basket offered because honestly I was famished and hadn't eaten anything all day.
My server Palina was super friendly and a great conversationalist. There weren't a ton of customers when I arrived so she gave me 5 star service and was extremely enthusiastic about helping me and making sure I had enough water etc.
For dessert I wanted to try a piece of cheese 🧀 so I picked the creamy triple cream and it was presented with a one candied almond, a smear of jam and three tiny pieces of bread 🍞 to go with it.
The presentation and taste of the food was excellent but again three hours later I ended up eating heated up mashed potatoes from Marianos grocery store because my meal here wasn't extremely filling.
If you love fine dining, a beautiful atmosphere and petite portions of extremely delicious food you will love here. I absolutely enjoyed myself and had a great time thanks to Palina. I believe this bistro is known for their brunches on the weekend but I myself am not a brunch person.
This was a fun experience and I'd probably come back again for their happy hour menu...
Read moreI really wanted to love this place but we had a poor experience. We got seated fairly quickly because we had a reservation. It was a friday night and they were booked so it understandably took a while for someone to take our order but when they arrived the waiter had a bit of an attitude. We definitely wanted to try wine but the prices were quite high so we got two glasses of the cheapest option which is the part that I think they took issue with (that we got glasses and not a bottle). We also ordered 2 medium plates, 1 large plate and a cheese plus meat. The food was good but the portions are very small and pricey. I personally do not think its worth the price for the food. The wine though was very good and tasty.
If you are a wine person, this may be your place! I am just discovering the wine world but I would come back for more tastings for sure (once I’m ready to drop $60 on a bottle).
Overall, I think this place is just okay. The hostess and the waiter really rubbed us the wrong way. It felt snobby and pretentious. And the food prices and portions are just unjustifiable. My advice is to just go...
Read morePompette is a very nice neighborhoody restaurant. I liked the vibe immediately. The host was friendly and acknowledged us right away. Our server Sophie was very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu, which had about 20 well designed and excellently described dishes. We had a delicious beet salad that had a great balance of flavors and textures. The scallop and corn “soup” dish was fantastic and probably our favorite. The stuffed squash blossoms were heavenly little packets of awesomeness. Maybe one of the most unique preparations of squash blossoms I have ever had. We had the Lamb Rack and frankly it didn’t stand up to rest of the meal. It was a bit fatty and required some work to eat, which is ok but the steak knife was super dull. We finished off with their deconstructed S’mores dessert. Absolutely wonderful. They comped our dessert for my birthday which was extremely thoughtful and no small gesture in my opinion. The wine and beverage menu was well rounded and had a few very good NA options. We will definitely be back. This is a fantastic value, thus the Bibb Gourmand...
