I really want to rate this restaurant higher but we never had our ordered dinner served to us after 1hr 45 minutes so I can’t. I had a party of 4 reservation for 6:15 this past Monday. Upon arrival we were warmly greeted by the hostess and seated at our table. Shortly after a server appeared (never told us his name) and asked if we wanted drinks. When the drinks (delicious) were served we ordered 2 appetizers (saganaki and a trio of spreads plate) which were delicious. We then ordered a village salad for our table and at that time we put our dinner order in. The salad was served (again delicious). After finishing our salad, all plates were taken away. Then that’s when the wheels came off the train. We waited and waited and waited. Only one time was there a check in from our server only because he asked if we wanted more drinks, no mention of food, delay or issue. We waited what seemed like eternity. At one point our server walked past our table I stopped him to ask what the delay was. He couldn’t look me in the eye and blamed it on a “slammed” kitchen. When I pointed out that all the tables around us had food on their tables, he seemed nervous, unapologetic and walked away. We were going to a concert at the UC and gave ourself ample time but couldn’t wait any longer. At this point, I see our server talking to the manager at the hostess stand. I got up from the table and approached them to ask again what the issue was and to also say we did not want the ordered dinner served because we would not have ample time to eat it. The manager came to our table loosely apologized and comped our appetizers and gave us a bill for the drinks. Clearly something happened, we suspect our orders were put in late or forgotten by the server. It would’ve been nice of the manager to “really” apologize and the icing on the cake would’ve been to say “come back next time on us because we want to make this right.” Everything aside, the restaurant has a nice menu, good drinks and is beautiful inside I just wish we didn’t have the...
Read moreWe came here to celebrate my sister’s birthday and the entire experience was a letdown.
Service was practically non-existent. The meal started with dirty knives on the table and extremely long wait times for every dish. We were told the delays were due to a gluten and dairy allergy in our group, but that doesn’t excuse the fact that our server visited every table around us multiple times while ignoring ours.
We took the server’s recommendation to have the lamb chops cooked medium rare, but they arrived practically raw. About 15 minutes later, the server finally came by and agreed they were undercooked and said she needed to show management so they could be taken off the bill. After taking them away, she never came back to confirm they were taken off or ask if she could replace the dish with something else. To make matters worse, she knew the guest who had ordered the lamb chops had dietary restrictions and limited options but only at the end of the meal did she casually ask if she had enough to eat.
The rest of the food was just average. At the end of the meal, the server said she would comp a dessert and a round of Mastika shots, but the shots were something we had actually ordered earlier and she had forgotten about.
We ended up being there for about 3 hours, most of it just waiting. Overall, it was a poor experience from start to finish. Maybe this restaurant just needs more time to figure out their service and kitchen issues, but as of now, I wouldn’t return and can’t...
Read moreThere are a number of older Greek restaurants in Chicago’s Greektown that, while worthy spots, have grown a bit stale. This why so I’m so excited that Ithaki Estiatorio opened. I visited it a few days ago and it was like a breath of fresh air. Not only is it going dishes in a high end way that other Greek restaurants in Greet Town aren’t doing, it’s bringing a modern and upscale ecstatic to the area.
First, the food is amazing. I ordered the smoked lamb ribs, lamb chops, Greek fires, wood fired octopus and lemon possets for dessert. I heard they even fly in their seafood from Greece. All of the dishes are great, but my favorite of the night was the lamb chops. They were cooked perfectly and were very juicy and tender. I also enjoyed the Greek fires as the feta was delicious and the fires were perfectly cooked. Nothing I ordered that isn’t worth getting again.
Second, the restaurant itself is gorgeous and modern. It was dispensed with the hokey and corny decor of most Greet restaurants and replaced it with a slick modern feel with pops of color.
Third, the service was excellent. The waitstaff at this restaurant is on par with any upscale spot in Chicago. My waitress was polite, attentive and brought out my food quickly.
This is a must visit...
