The food is very good, fresh, authentic and the portions are very generous. The service is hit or miss, they are way understaffed and the wait staff simply cannot keep up. I really like the parrilladas, salpicon de huevo con salsa verde, manjares combination, tortas, tacos and fresh hand made tortillas. I can honestly say that I never had a bad meal at this place. They also have a big free parking lot for your convenience. UPDATE 08/12/2022 Food -------------⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Service ---------⭐ Friendliness -⭐ Atmosphere -⭐ BEWARE OF THE ADDITIONAL FEES THAT THEY ARE ADDING TO YOUR BILL... The food is still very good and the portions are still about the same as they have been for years. Their prices are definitely much higher than what they used to be. They even charge $1.99 for a small bowl of chips that they used to be complementary. If you pay with a credit card they add a 3.75% percentage fee to the transaction. The service is terrible, and soooooooo slooooow. I don't even know how they can stay open for business, the place is filthy and falling apart. The men's bathroom had toilet paper and paper towels all over the floor. The urinal had no running water to flush it and the toilet was over flowing. How can the City of Chicago inspectors allow this many violations to exist in a place where food is prepared and sold to the public. I'm not sure if I'll ever come back, I think it's time to say goodbye.

Was confused when trying to add tip to the bill. My husband asked about the service charge but the person ringing up the check couldn't give us a straight answer. Just said it was a bank charge. At the time the service fee wasn't added to the final bill. It was on the bill but not added. I had to add it to the total then add tip. She had to finally re add it up correctly then we could pay. This notice should be in translated into English and displayed properly. My husband and I have no problems with paying for credit card service fees. It just felt wrong in how they go about doing business by not having signs clearly displayed. This notice on the door was at a level only a person 6 foot tall could read.I am 5 ft tall the sign is nearly at the top of the door and the tiny font is no help. Plus it is on the door leading out on the left as you walk in. The other sign is just as confusing taped on the register. This is a sit down restaurant and you pay at your table. The only reason we noticed the fee is because we were waiting to get the bill but, we had to leave. We just walked to the register to get our bill. We probably wouldn't have notice if the bill was just brought to our table. Its a shame because we're local and always support our local businesses. We liked coming here with our extended family but, we won't come back. Nothing wrong with the service or food.

This is one of those restaurants that I've driven past several times and never tried. I can say that I am glad with the decision to give this place a try! Talking about food strictly; everything tasted pretty delicious. My boyfriend and I ordered the Guacamole Grande, which ended up with a lot more than expected. It also came this tomato salsa that had a spicy kick to it and was hot (temperature wise). I almost wanted to drink the salsa like soup lol. Steak asada fajita was super flavorful. Steak was cooked tenderly with a mix of onions and green bell peppers. It came with a pile of guacamole, beans, rice, and some salad greens. There was plenty of food on the plate. Boyfriend had the Steak Enchiladas (verde) and he says it was good too! The amount of food we had here was quite filling. In terms of the environment, you can tell the place was quite authentic... but the restaurant can definitively invest on upgrading. The place doesn't give off the cleanest vibe. Also not sure about the beans... I normally eat refried beans but these did not taste the greatest... Strawberry margarita was also okay. I do hope the owners invest on upgrading the restaurant because the food here was overall amazing.

This review is long overdue. I’ve been coming here since Manjares was La Condesa. Cada lugar tiene su especialidad. Since I can remember, the Carne Tampiqueña has been the most delicious platillo from here, in my opinion.

I can’t speak for other items on the menu, but I can say without hesitation, that if you come here, you have to get la tampiqueña. Make sure you get the carne gruesa, not cecina. Makes such a difference. Literally, so delicious! The enchilada that comes with it is topped with the most decadent salsa. Mas como salsa de mole, but it makes the dish that much better.

Also? This place is very authentic. I don’t know why other reviews say it’s not? It very much is. It’s fairly average, I think, as far as cost goes. Pricing relates to inflation, supply chain costs, demand etc. restaurants have become more pricey since the pandemic, and that’s okay! However, if you’re not willing to come to terms with that, I suggest you stay home and eat, instead of bashing the restaurant.

The service has never been an issue for us. Everyone has always been so attentive, and our food is always ready and at our table in less than 15 min.

The location is run down, the parking lot needs to be redone, it’s been like this for years. Definitely needs an update, but honestly the food (again, specifically la tampiqueña) makes up for it. We come all the way from the nw suburbs just to eat here, and will continue to be loyal customers for many...
