I'm so glad I found this place. It's in the top tier of Chicago taco places, one of the very best. They have a pretty extensive menu, with all the usual suspects along with Mexican and American style breakfasts. There's also a bar with at least several types of beer and tequila, not sure if they have all liquors or not. My girlfriend always wants eggs for breakfast, I always want tacos, so this place was very valuable to us. And it's right next to the California blue line stop.
It's a sit down place with very friendly, family place-like service. The hours are I believe 6am to 10pm, which is great. At least those are the Sunday hours. The environment is nice and the small bar (with no seating that I could see) is sort of tiki-like. Cool.
I had a carne asada, a pollo, and a abodabo taco. All were outstanding. The chicken was amazingly tender. The carne asada was some of the best I've had, anywhere. Tender but not too fatty, very flavorful. The abodaba may have been my favorite one. These tacos are just $1.75 apiece, a little more if you want cheese or sour cream. I just had them with onions, cilantro, a little lime, and salsa.
When we sat down they served us chips with a chunky, spicy salsa, very fresh, with biggish chunks of jalapeno in it. I thought it was pretty terrific. If you have a low spiciness tolerance, it might not be for you. There was also a squeeze bottle of salsa verde which was also outstanding. My only complaint is that the chips weren't warm, but they did appear to be house-made. We asked for some red salsa as well, and I'm glad we did - it may have been the best of the three. All of them are pretty spicy.
I asked for a margarita and it was HUGE. Tasty, too.
My lady really liked her huevos mexicanos. They gave her plenty of flour tortillas to eat it with, too. I had some of her refried beans and they were very good.
I was a little surprised that my tacos came with flour tortillas, but I didn't mind too much. Next time I will ask for corn tortillas, I am almost certain they are available.
For two full meals, a latte, and a gigantic margarita? $23 + tip. I will be back...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThe good reviews are fake and bought reviews!!! The people posting 5 stars have 1 review??? Vegetarians BEWARE! Just moved to the Logan Sq. area and trying out some new places. Came here on a very busy Friday night. The waiter and waitress were very friendly and welcoming. I found some ground beef in our complimentary salsa. I let our waiter know he said sorry and he will bring us another. It never came. I asked for recommendations on vegetarian food. He recommended the veggie salad which has refried beans. I asked if they were vegetarian, the answer was no, they are cooked in lard. I'm very limited on options now. So I ordered vegetarian quesadillas because you really can't go wrong with that right? I was wrong. They were lacking flavor and I don't even think the onion and green pepper had a sprinkle of salt. My husband who only eats seafood ordered Shrimp Diablo which comes with fries and rice for 13.99. He asked for extra fries since the rice has chicken stock. When his dish came, both of our jaws dropped. It came with about 7 pieces of medium size shrimp drenched in some type of a sauce, some ice berg lettuce and a very small amount of fries that had some lagging pieces of tortilla chips. The presentation was just horrible. The food all together was subpar, the waiter and waitress were very nice but very overwhelmed at the same time. (The waitress tripped on someone and a whole glass of water fell on me which I didn't complain because everyone makes mistakes and I'm not sure she was at fault). It seemed like most people were there for the drinks, not so much the food. I won't...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI have been going to this restaurant for over 20 years. They have always had the best customer service and great food. I am not sure what happened but they have hired a woman to manage the restaurant and the customer service is beyond horrible. I have placed 3 separate phone orders on 3 separate occasions and all of them have had either the wrong food or they forget to include food that I paid for. The first 2 times I let it slide but today I just couldn't. I ordered the caldo de res and they gave me the wrong tortillas. I ordered flautas and they gave me an open face fried tacos. Anyone who knows Mexican food knows flautas are rolled up deep fried tacos not open faced tacos. When I called to let them that this was the 3rd time that they got my order wrong that manager did not want to hear me out and hung up the phone on me 3 times. Then when I went to the restaurant to get a refund for the food she decided that it was best to make me wait until she helped an employee count out her drawer. When she finally decided to help me she didn't apologize for all the wrong orders I have received in the past and then said she didn't care that the order was wrong, she didn't care that I had known the family for 20 years and told me I was crazy for complaining about the service. Who in their right mind who provides customers service believes that telling a customer of 20 years that they don't care about the service they are providing and have the audacity to call a customer crazy for complaining about not receiving the...
