It's Friday and you have no child because they are spending the night at a friend's house. What do you do? In my case, it's date nite with my wife! Good thing is that we love to eat and are not afraid to show it and with indoor dining back on the field, we decide to just dive back into some great eats.
We hop in the truck and drive down Milwaukee to see what looks good. We get to Suhi-Taku and see there's a line. Well, a line means good right? So we park and walk right in for what we knew would be a long wait. Hey we didn't care, we are out and about on a Friday so bring it. 56 minutes later and we are wondering if our choice was really well thought out. Finally, it's our turn to enjoy what others before us have enjoyed and shared with each other.
We're seated and we are given the all-you-can-eat menu and a choice card. Pick what you want and they just bring it out. Easy enough right? Ten minutes later and apps come out. They were exactly what I was expecting, gyoza fried up just right as well as lollipop shrimp with chili sauce were solid. We finish them up just as our rolls come out.
With such great apps, I would have expected the same from the rolls, but this is where we were left hanging. The first round was three rolls, with a fourth in tow. The first was a godzilla roll ,second was the fire Phoenix roll, and third was the dragon roll. The last of the bunch was the crispy roll. I was blown away by the fact that the first three all tasted the exact same with the exception of the texture of the godzilla roll with the shrimp tempura in the middle. The flavor were very bland, and not noteworthy. The fire Phoenix was supposed to be spicy, and it yet it failed miserably at that task. The crispy roll however was the only highlight of the four. It had a nice flavor from beginning to end and almost got me to order another.
Look, the place is still rather new, and with all new restaurants there's trial and error. I would love to see them succeed, so I hope they see this and take note. This is never to bash, but to help keep a good place going. Even after writing this review, I'm still open to paying them another visit just to see if it was an off day. We...
Read moreWell despite trying to hold in paper real money a coworker brought up this place there are two locations to one in wicker Park and I went to the one in Logan square because he had friends that he invited and he thought this was a budget for sushi versus going to sushi station for example or any of those sushi places where there's a conveyor belt that can get expensive. For a buffet I was actually surprised how fresh tasting as well as the looks of the sushi. Service was atentative and friendly. Ambience was a little more modern or contemporary just like most restaurants it's not dreary or looks like it's from the 1970s. The only thing I did not like is the fact that you have to order once and if you order again it's going to take a good 20 or 30 minutes for the second round for the buffet other than that I actually did like the sushi especially the eel the egg or tomato they're salmon or sake tasted very fresh. As well as the smoke Sweet roll which if you order these individually can get expensive it seems like but they always offer the buffet it seems. The Miso soup was also good for appetizer the muscle surprisingly was also delicious too and I usually don't like to eat mussels especially Filipino style but this is Japanese and they had a savory sweet aftertaste and not that iron taste that most muscles taste like calamari was decently good they give you the thai sweet sauce for that. Other than that I would give it four stars it's not really a perfect five but it's getting up there second to none. I don't know if this would really be truly Japanese traditionally but they also have the sesame balls which is more dim sum so I kind of look at this Asian fusion for modern Asian fusion. Also the table I was sitting they had like the knats so I was a little Disturbed trying to eat trying to drive the knats or flies away. Another reason for...
Read moreWent to this place to celebrate my sister’s birthday. Waiting time depends on how late is your reservation and how many are you. We are 10. Compared to other AYCE sushi restaurants, they gave us an order sheet that will be shared by 2. Quite surprisingly to be honest. But then we understand how it goes. They don’t bring a big order that will confuse their guests on which one we ordered. I find their system well organized. We love their sushi because they don’t put too much rice on it. In that manner you won’t get easily be full which means you can try their other variants. No limits when it comes to their Nigiri. Food was delivered fast which surprised us too. Their branch is well cleaned, maybe there’s a little crumbs over here and there which is understandable since it’s a busy night. Lightnings and ambience is ok too. Rest rooms are clean. There are only few things I want to point out: They don’t offer refillable or it was not just offered to us. They don’t have enough space in the waiting area. We waited outside but needed to go inside because it’s humid. And there’s only 3 chairs available. Was not asked what option we can be seated. Which for most part they can give us 2 separate table and not wait long. When we started singing a birthday song while we are carrying a big box of gift, none of their staff went to us and gave a complimentary cake or something. Maybe you need to tell them if you will be celebrating something. But personally for me, it’s initiative to the management and staff at least go there and greet the celebrant. When we got our bill everything was on full price, was not asked how many kids we have which obviously we got 2.
Other than that we were greeted and served well. Constantly refilling out water and asked us if we want...
