"It was ok"
There is nothing terrible about El Torito but nothing stands out either.
Happy hour is 3-7pm and as far as beers on tap there was dos equis amber, coors lite, and modello. I'm a beer guy so this is what really hurt the score here. I mean a $4 coors lite isn't bad, but I'd rather pay $2 more for a premium beer elsewhere. If you like Mexican cocktails like margaritas and other sweet drinks, El Torito might score higher with you.
The food isn't bad, decent prices during happy hour and a good selection to choose from. They have select appitisers on sale during happy hour with decent prices.
Salsa and chips were brought out and I got free guacamole and chips by signing up for rewards on the website. I can't say I'll ever earn enough points because there are just so many other places I'd choose over this one. I went with 3 other people so that was my excuse, even though I knew the beer selection wouldn't be that great, I didn't expect it to be that bad..
Once again, I am basing my review mostly on the beer so if you like a nice Mexican cantina but don't want to spend a lot of money, go here, especially if your party likes drinks like Mexican candy shots and margaritas.
The service was good here, no complaints.
The quality of food here was good, no complaints.
Hard liquor selection was good, no complaints.
The cantina area (bar) has TVs for sports and there is forgettable background music playing.
In closing, my 3star review is based on my tastes and nothing good or bad happened during my visit. I'd choose somewhere else next time, but don't ket my review stop you from visiting El...
Read moreI spent the night by New Year’s Eve, but it was dead music. Everything was just down! however, I do love my buffalo wings and the food the fact that I like that Mexican food makes me want to post this. I used to eat those buffalo wings and Mexican rice when I was 15 or 16 years old. I always ordered the fiesta platter because it has different appetizers and brings buffalo wings. also, the fact that It was my first job ever 1992 I used to get $10 an hour because I knew how to make the seafood that was at El Torito in Manhattan Beach California. I actually know how to make that salsa in a few plates from them. I have nothing but good experiences as my first job I learned to set up the buffet became a bar back food server I did everything and you had to run the show. It was one of the best jobs I ever had we had a night for salsa another night for another one for rap and so on. but the Torito I worked in. Panchito, JORGE, Rivas, Triston, David, El Pollo, Randy Miller Martin, the chef and a whole bunch of other friends that I won’t forget. I love eating at El Torito. I usually order the same plate but this one here needs to bring the atmosphere up a bit more and I will suggest seafood buffet on Sundays. I’ll give you guys the recipe that we used to use scallops with jalapeño butter over linguine or rice. Also shrimps with scallops or clams. Mix with rice and linguini and tomatoes and garlic sauce and to give it a Mexican twist. We put some cilantro and onions on top of it with...
Read moreThe day we came to El Torito it is PI Day (3/14/25) and the restaurant was having $3.14 margaritas. But they were also having in their table top specials $10.99 chicken fajitas. We were greeted with smiles from the hostess and a bigger smile from our waitress Mayan. Both welcomed us and Mayan went right to work, she asked if we would like anything to drink we explained how we were looking forward to their PI Day Special Margaritas. She said coming right up, a few minutes later we had both drink and ordered guacamole and chips for our appetizer and Chicken Fajitas for dinner, Mayan processed to make our guacamole right in front of us, we never had that happen before, wow fresh guacamole and chips our dinner date was getting off to a great start. Mayan came periodically to see how our drinks were coming along and I decided to order another margarita, few minutes later we were being served our fajitas with our tortillas and margarita. Dinner was excellent my wife and I actually took half of it home because we couldn't eat it all. The food was cooked perfectly the onions 🧅 and bell peppers 🫑 great. The music wasn't to loud and we had a great conversation. Our experience at El Torito in West Covina was great from having excellent food, drinks but especially our waitress Mayan, she made everything that much better. If you ever dine at El Torito see if you can be seated in Mayan's section, you won't be disappointed. We will...
