Applebee's Grill + Bar — Restaurant in West Des Moines

We arrived around 5:00 pm for dinner and surprisingly the restaurant was not very busy. We had to flag her down after she visited the table the first time and passing us 3 separate times, while looking straight at us. We ordered drinks and appetizers, and waited for about 30 minutes to receive the drinks. We got our dinner and had to ask why we never received our appetizers. She told us that it was her fault and would put in the order immediately, strangely enough the appetizers arrived about 5 minutes later; cold. Again, we had to search her out to ask for napkins and sauce twice, which took several minutes. When we finished I waited outside while my daughter paid and it took 23 minutes to complete this transaction. The waitress tries to excuse this by saying there was a problem with the system, yet she completed 5 other transactions during this period without issue; we believe that she was trying to force a tip but my daughters bank allows her to put the exact amount for any bill and no more, and it closes the account beyond that amount. She planned on leaving her a large cash tip, as we know that when you add it to the card the restaurant takes some of that money away from the waiter/waitress. She also broke the bill into separate receipts saying that the system forced her to do so, again we believe that she was trying to force a tip and could not. She finally got it paid and we left the restaurant. 15 minutes later my daughter got the notification from jer Bank that her account was charged for the most expensive ticket once again, because she was so flustered she forgot to lock her account. At this point my daughter immediately locked her account, only to get another notification a few minutes later that the restaurant again attempted to charger her account for the second ticket. This happened again twice the next day. I feel so bad, my daughter took the family out for a nice dinner for my Birthday, and the food was good but after this experience I think we are completely done with this chain altogether. We have other terrible experiences in separate locations and this was basically the last straw. My daughter contacted the corporate offices today a to speak to someone and file a complaint and she was rewarded with a recording stating that it would take 72 hours to look into the situation. It is incomprehensible that a large chain would allow their employees to behave in such a disrespectful and...

Walked in.....alot (more than 8) people waiting in the very small waiting area. Two people had dogs...so two dogs, the smaller fluffy dogs in the lobby walking around. This is Saturday afternoon which was a busy time. I understand people who need pets with them for reasons like being blind or medical reasons ..but this to me was excessive and should not have been allowed. All I can think about is dog hair flying around in my food the dogs peeing on the floor or anything else that can be included in an unsanitary public eating environment. I immediately turned around and walked out. I will never recommend any one to go there and I will never go back because of you allow customers to do unsanitary things then you will allow your workers to do it. This Furthermore brings me to my realization that it may be an Iowa thing. The food in almost every restaurant here is bland beige and not a bit of seasoning. There is a place where cats are roaming around the inside of a restaurant in vallry junction. I ate at a place on 41st n Ingersoll the food was expensive and terrible a customer threw up at his table on the ground and the staff didn't even try to clean it up ...they just wiped the table n sat the next person down. Then the people next to them had a bigggggg dog barking at folks walking down the street he snatching food off the table like what is the deal with this type of behavior. It's plain out nasty to me. I will never tell anyone to go to these places for dinner including Applebee's. Food is changing it's getting grittier and more expensive so when going out to enjoy a meal and support a business I expect to see sanitary work ethics and I don't expect to see no dang animals like that. I have a Chihuahua. She goes to the pet store to the park she does not go in places she has no business...
