Famous Dave's Bar-B-Que — Restaurant in West Des Moines

This was the first time ever that I have visited Famous Dave's. I was impressed by this West Des Moines location from the phone call to when I actually picked up the order, and finally trying out the food. I was assisted on the phone by Virginia, who was very kind and professional taking my order, making sure everything was correct. When picking up my order the same person, Virginia, explained everything to me about the order, making sure I was satisfied with everything before leaving. This was one of the most accurate, polite and professional employee's I have dealt with in a long time, especially from a restaurant! Anyway, when I got home to try the food, it was magnificent!! Some of the best BBQ I have ever had!! Needless to say, I will come back to this location again in the future!! Thanks Famous Dave's and thanks Virginia!!

As of yesterday I changed my review from five stars to one star! What a difference six months makes! I am a really easy person to satisfy, don’t ask for much and don’t want much. I am highly successful but like to give people a chance in life. When I wrote my original review about Famous Dave’s in West Des Moines, I was astounded the employees were magnificent. Fast forward to yesterday, a complete opposite direction. I know the same people were not working there because they had different names. I tried to make an order to be picked up, and could not understand the woman I was speaking with because it was an answering service, not the west Des Moines store! Then after I asked to be transferred to a manager at the store, I talked to a woman there who hurried me off the phone, Then placed me on hold without warning, when I was trying to talk about my circumstance. All I wanted was a decent person to take my order over the phone, that I could understand and who was polite, like I witnessed six months ago. Well they lost my business and I went to another barbecue place in Des Moines that was great in customer service, I will never go to Famous Dave’s again after my horrid experience. Famous Dave's is probably one of my favorite restaurants, and this location has a lot to do with that.

I really enjoy the look of the restaurant, and no matter which room you're seated in, the theming is fun without being in your face or over the top. If the weather is nice, the screened in patio is my favorite place to eat. It almost feels like a mini vacation in a way.

The staff is always friendly here, and I've never experienced bad service. Even when we've sat on the patio, the staff always makes sure to keep drinks filled and check to see how we're doing. Wait times never seem too long, either.

Most importantly, the food here is great. There's better barbecue, even locally, but I always leave feeling satisfied, and I don't think I've ever had a bad meal here. The prices are fair, and I always leave feeling like I got my money's worth. Famous Dave's also has a fairly generous rewards program, so I earn "Bones" pretty quickly, which helps save money on future visits.
