tonight we went to the sandbox, i’ve been there a few times before and really enjoyed it. tonight we had a server that gave us attitude from the second we sat down. we were given extra attitude when asking for a beer. no big deal, maybe she was having a bad day, we brushed it off. then after putting the empty beer glass at the end of the table and it sitting there for over 20 minutes, i finally went to the bar to ask for another one. our server was either no where to be found or at the bar talking and what looked to be like on her phone. it seemed we were her only table yet we were hardly acknowledged. she came over after another server brought the beer and asked with a snarky tone if that was the first or second beer. then she stormed away. at least 30 minutes after ordering our food she came to let us know that the kitchen messed up because when she put our meals in (all on the same ticket) that supposedly the kids meal didn’t print. so now they were gonna make it while our food that was ready sat there getting cold. okay frustrating but whatever. she brings our food out about 10-15 minutes later. we made the comment “wow that was fast!” trying to be nice so she didn’t feel so bad about her mistake because we expected it to take longer for the other meal to be made. in an extremely rude and snarky tone snaps at us and says “are you being sarcastic?!?” we said “no we just expected it to take longer” she rolled her eyes and she asked “anything else ya need” with yet more attitude. then stormed away and was clearly talking about us (as she had been the whole time) to another server. the reason i know she was talking about us was she was doing it at the bar right in front of us while pointing at us and glaring. at this point i had enough and i asked to speak to a manager. he was clearly upset with her and explained it was her second day and that was not okay. he thanked me for telling him and i asked for a new server. we were assigned a new server who was so sweet and did amazing job and apologized profusely for the previous servers behavior. the manager immediately pulled the original server into the kitchen and then came to talk to us. he apologized for her behavior and said he sent her home. he said they work hard for a good reputation there and that behavior will not be tolerated. we thanked him and said there was no hard feelings we would still be back…well that was until we got the bill of course. i’m never one to ask for any sort of compensation on a meal - however, when we were treated so poorly and the service was so awful that you had to fire your server on the spot, i think that should be compensated. you can say your sorry all you want but after all that we get an almost $90 bill with absolutely no compensation?!? are you truly sorry or are you just saving face?!? i had to ask or server if we could be compensated for the horrible experience we had with the original server. she was very understanding and also agreed that we definitely should have been compensated and let us know she would compensate it herself. the fact that the manager did not just do that automatically is insane to me!! she was very kind and took about $20 off our bill. like i said i was not looking for handouts and went there fully expecting to pay a full bill. but after the way we were treated and our awful experience i truly did not feel it was fair. maybe it’s just me but i personally think actions speak louder than words. you can say you’re sorry about the behavior but you don’t try to make up for it? doesn’t seem very sincere.
okay rant over, sorry for...
Read moreMy phone was dead so could not take any photos. We went to this place on a Sunday just before 4pm. We wanted to eat downtown but so many places were closed so we remembered about this place. It is a shame they chose to open the same time K-Pot opened because its getting hidden its rave. At first, the experience was not great. People who came after us received their appetizer before us and their meal before we even received our appetizer. We have a 3yr old who got an adult sized cup when another kid got a kid cup. We got the Lutheran Sushi appetizer. It was delicious but the ham was very thin so couldn't taste it much. I got the Peanut Butter Jalapeno pizza and a section of mine was REALLY burnt at the edge, like near black. We loved how golden the cheese was though. My husband got the spicey Hawaiian and he loved the heat and he says the Canadian bacon was delicious but not enough of it. He was surprised to see whole pineapple on the pizza, but because it was whole there was only a pineapple every other slice so he'd have a slice of only heat and then a slice of heat and pineapple. The deserts where small for the price but they go to a good cause and were very tasty. Our 3 year old got the chicken strips and french fries it came in a cute sand bucket. I didn't try the strips but the french fries had to been double fried because they were nice and crispy outside and soft and fluffy inside. Loved them. We will credit some of the experience to being a new place and they are getting used to everything and looking forward to another experience. Also, our waitress seemed to be working multiple sections so we understood the delay later on. She complimented our son for his good behavior and...
Read moreI will say to start that this establishment just opened a week ago. So they are still working out the kinks. Service would've ranked higher had there been more servers on hand, Sasha was our waitress and she was working her tail off and did a great job with the situation till more people came to help out. Food I felt was good, appetizers were worth the wait, as you can see we had the cheesy garlic bread ( came on a baguette crisp outside and soft inside, cheese was melted to perfection, would like to have a little more garlic but was good) and the Lutheran sushi dip ( DONT let the name fool you) this was the highlight of my meal. If you like those pickles wrapped in ham and cream cheese you have at new years eve parties you will love this stuff. Basically a dip version with melted cheese on top. Serves with wonton chips. Walleye sandwich was very good would've like a little more tartar sauce, but the fish wasn't over battered and perfectly cooked. The Sandbox club set as the storefronts name left me wanting more but not in a good way, felt like it was missing something, don't get me wrong it was good, tomatos were fresh, toast was grilled nicely, meat and cheese melted well together maybe needs bacon. ( Everything better with bacon) Lol I was too stuffed to have the dessert but it comes in a perfect to go type container, and a excellent proportion for the price pictured is the s'mores cake. All in all a great new establishment, with a full bar and great appetizers, they also sell burgers and pizza, pizzas look delicious from the ones I seen. Definitely...
