Lox Stock & Bagels — Restaurant in West Hartford

I've been a loyal customer for many years. On Mother's Day, our pre-ordered, pre=sliced 2 dozen bagel order came with an EXTRA FRIEND. A fly/wasp was baked into the edge/outside a whole wheat bagel. Noticed it before we took a bit, thankfully. Two wings, eyes, and head - in all its glory.

I figured, oh well, things happen sometimes. I called the store three times for the owner/manager. Spoke with a number of nice, friendly staff, one of whom was a supervisor. Over the course of three days, three calls. Not one phone call in return. The friendly supervisor had asked me what one of the calls was in reference to...and I told her about the insect in my bagel. She wasn't phased. (YIKES). I explained I wasn't looking for any compensation or even a free dozen (no thanks!). I just thought the owner/manager would want to know, as a business owner.

I guess I was wrong. NEVER AGAIN EATING ANYTHING FROM HERE. It's more about the lack of customer service than it is about how a fly/wasp was in my bagel. I guess they don't care.....and sounds like perhaps this isn't the first time.....maybe this is a common occurrence. Since they don't seem interested in how to keep this from happening again, I thought customers or future customers would want to know. Or maybe a new name would be appropriate - Lox, Stock,...

Been coming here for many years, and I love the bagels and the lunch sandwiches, do not understand the reviews saying the bagels are trash. I've gotten bagels 10 minutes before close and they were still perfect and fresh. Also random but I love their pickles lol. The breakfast sandwiches are tasty but could definitely be improved if they got a grill instead of microwaving everything, so don't expect a spectacular bacon egg n cheese here (go across town to goldbergs for that, although I don't think their bagels are as good personally). As others have said though, unfortunately most of the staff seems very unhappy to be there. Even the ones that aren't snippy or rude are still not what I would call friendly. There's never any smiling going on in there, even with each other it seems. Makes me wonder what the working conditions are like. I've seen the owner in there multiple times and he is also very glum looking. Never seen him make eye contact or smile at his customers OR his employees. Seems like that attitude is trickling down to his whole staff, at least that's how it looks to an outsider. Despite this, I still go there as often as I can so you know the bagels are good lol. But it would be nice if the staff was friendlier. Also wish the place was open...

I honestly wish I could give this place zero stars! The staff (with the exception of one young lady) are so rude! They ignore you when you’re standing in line waiting to order. It’s like you’re actually invisible! Then, when you ask about cream for coffee or tea, you’re told to “go over there, we let you take what you need.” Ok, “over there” is a dorm-room sized refrigerator with OPEN gallons of milk and cartons of creamer. Like we’re borrowing from a neighbor instead of paying a ridiculous amount of money for what ended up being horrible food! Despicable! The eggs are microwaved, the bagels are chewy, how can anyone eat here?! I would rather stop at McDonalds … even the hash browns at this place were worse than anywhere else. The owners should be ashamed, this place is a dump! Do not waste your money! PS - the atmosphere is dismal, worse than a high school cafeteria. So...
