$40 dollars for just (4) small slices and a bunch of unnecessary “Detroit Style” attitude! “I pay more in my commercial rent than your residential rent!” - says the owner/manager. Um, of course you do! The City of West Hollywood requires a minimum (5) year lease (standard) for commercial leases, that’s the requirement in order to run a business in this city. You took over the now closed Big Mama’s and Papa’s Pizzeria, as they didn’t see it feasible to take on a new 5 year lease renewal at $8,000 per month. Same goes for the now closed (yet still so beloved Marco’s Trattoria). And yet a new business THINKS it can come in to the neighborhood with so much attitude. Severely lacking the ideology of top notch customer service. SPECIFICALLY FOR THE FIRST TIME CUSTOMER! Who’s only giving the place a mere chance at patronage for the sake of survival for a new establishment in the neighborhood. Here’s a tip for your business, above and beyond customer service is the backbone of survival. In order for any establishment (most especially a new one) to thrive in West Hollywood, customer service is key! You are no longer operating within your “ghost kitchen” and now have a full on, very expensive lease to pay. It’s not the price of the order, heck not even the quality of the food. But the CUSTOMER SERVICE! I am appalled by this first time experience and because of it, I’m so turned off by your establishment, that I’m not even willing to eat the almost $50 (4) slices of pizza that I purchased. Just going to feed it to the dog (or throw it away) and order from Joe’s on Sunset. They as well as many other local eateries in the area absolutely get it. I can not exclaim it enough. Customer service, customer service, customer service! And not to mention that their (Joe’s) pizza is delicious. Never, ever, EVER AGAIN! Ever! But at least you got my money one time. Good on you. Congratulations.
Side note: I’ve reviewed your other reviews from customers and see how you prefer to respond ever so boastfully (with your chest I might add) as opposed to taking the role of a new business owner in a relatively affluent area and realizing that the customer experience is everything. Your establishment seems to absolutely refuse to take heave and consideration to the customer’s review. And instead choose to engage in divisive communication with your customer base. Your business, is operating in the City of West a Hollywood. Not Detroit, Michigan. We do not (and we will not) tolerate any attitudes other than our own. Customer driven operations are the ones that thrive. Not the ones that push back (and then choose to become argumentative) on a negative customer experience. And bashing other businesses qualities of pizza is not only asinine, but childish. You’ll...
Read moreDTown's pizza is distinctive to the point, in my experience, that their offerings are unique in LA. They use top-tier, fresh ingredients; their formulations are superb. They even have bagels on weekends that are equally outstanding.
In Los Angeles there is no shortage of restaurants with competent kitchens, including some quite good pizza offerings. DTown, offering authentic Detroit-style pizza is in a tiny cohort of top tier specialized pie makers. What is additionally remarkable about DTown is a level of service that is nearly peerless, in my view.
Full context: last night I placed an order at 7PM from the DTown location that is just under two miles from my home, a drive typically of about seven minutes. The Uber Eats delivery took just under two hours, with the driver ignoring my request to ring the intercom at my gate so the order would not be left out in 60 degree weather and a light drizzle. I was, however, tracking this quite long delivery and retrieved it about a minute after it arrived.
The pies were in what I assume was a recycled sleeve marked "refrigerate immediately on delivery"—a decidedly odd instruction for hot pizza. I used a digital thermometer and determined that the pies were 80 degrees F. Not surprising, as they had been in the delivery channel for a couple of hours.
I called DTown to see if they could shed any light on this outcome. Rio took my call, indicating that she knew about my order and had been quite frustrated with Uber Eats's service in this instance. She apologized profusely.
Rio also arranged for a full refund...but what happened next was extraordinary. Rio made new pies, drove to my home and hand-delivered the replacement order. I was astonished: this is a level of customer service that is virtually unimaginable. DTown, and their people, are so committed to their purpose that they will seemingly do anything...shoulder any inconvenience without complaint...to ensure their customers get the result they expected. Rio even declined a gratuity.
Bottom line: when you find a business that makes a superb product AND treats their customers like they are the highest priority imaginable, this is a business that must be recognized, appreciated, and supported. Writing a good review really did seem like the least I could do.
Thank you, Rio - and thank you...
