I have been served three times by three bartenders at Harlowe's in the last month and a half, and all three times were excellent. They really went above and beyond on my first visit: when one of the ryes I asked to try they offered to make up the difference with another kind or choose a replacement, and when they were out of asparagus to make the appetizer I ordered, they let me know, offered some fries to tide me over, and then (apparently) someone had time to run across the street to Trader Joe's and they completed my original order! That night's bartender, who for privacy's sake I'll refer to as PrincesS, is the model of professionalism and skill as well as a good conversationalist when there's time.
The product selection is very good (especially the spirits, though their beer and wine lists are up to the task), the prices are reasonable (for WeHo and given the quality), and the chocolate pot de crème is impeccable. I was informed by one local couple that this is the second-straightest bar in WeHo, but that's clearly in an "all are welcome and comfortable here" sense given our identities and positive experiences. I'd be a regular if I didn't live so far away; as is I'll probably stop by once or...
Read moreIf I could give zero stars, I would. My husband and I decided to stop by at this bar to end our night, but we quickly decided that this was not the place for us. The security at the door was extremely rude. After we provided our ID as requested, he inspected our documents for several minutes and requested that we provide additional information to verify our identity. My husband provided his military ID and that was rejected since it did not have his date of birth. He proceeded to ask for our passport and to confirm how long we lived in our home. We weren’t sure why the question of how long we lived in our home was relevant to enter a bar, not did we know how he could truly verify (we were a long way from home). Nevertheless, our experience was not ideal, unprofessional, and did not make us feel welcome at this establishment. We came out hoping to have a good time and experience LA nightlife, but instead we were greeted with an interrogation and a security guard on a power trip. Based on our experience, we would NOT recommend Harlowe to others (especially if you are visiting from...
Read moreThe service here is atrocious. Ordered a shrimp taco, a chicken taco, and a mule for myself. My date ordered pasta and a margarita. My drink came and it was weak. Finally the food came out and the server brought me a shrimp taco and chicken tenders. I told the waiter that I ordered a shrimp taco and chicken taco not tenders. He tells me “You said chicken tenders” and didn’t apologize or offer to make what I ordered. My date confirmed with me that she heard me say chicken tacos. I didn’t want to make a scene and I don’t like to waste food so I just took the L and moved on. A little later my date ordered another margarita. We waited for about 30 minutes and the drink never came. I had to get up to find our waiter and told him we’re ready for the bill. He comes over and has the 2nd margarita on the bill. I told him we never received it and to take it off. He says “Ya you did”. At this point I’ve had enough and told him to take the drink off or I’m doing a charge back on my card. He begrudgingly takes the drink off without ever apologizing. Rude...
