Yo mama don't cook like this. Tu Madre is a cute little taqueria just off of Santa Monica, with absolutely amazing food. We ordered an array of tacos, all of which impressed: Fried Chicken: 9/10 Sweet N Sour Chicken: 8/10 Crispy potato: 10/10 Crispy fish: 9/10 KBBQ street taco: 10/10 Carne Asada: 8/10 Brisket: 8/10 I've previously ordered food from Tu Madre via a delivery app and the food is equally as good. The one warning I'll give for the tacos is that they aren't the biggest portions, and they're served on individual plates. If you have a small table, you may run out of space if you order enough tacos to be satisfied. In addition to the large selection of tacos, they have an equally diverse drink menu. They offer margaritas by the pitcher, flight, and glass. If you order the flights, they come with a sparkler (as I said, the place is cute) for your social media memories. If you're not in a margarita mood, they also offer other cocktails and a sad selection of beer. I got a Madre Passion, which was spectacular, and my partner ordered a Deeply Rooted Issues, which was very citrusy. Tu Madre would be well on its way to five stars if it weren't for one thing. Service can be slow, which is the reason for dropping a star on the overall rating. I noticed the speed of service depended on where you sat. Unfortunately for us, we weren't at an advantageous table. I think we talked to our real server once. He didn't take our order, bring the food, or help us with the check. He checked in once or twice, but that was it. Thankfully, we were heading someplace else after dinner and didn't want a second drink. Otherwise, we might still be sitting there. Overall, go to Tu Madre for the food. Or, if you live close enough, order via a delivery app and enjoy the food without the annoyance of being ignored.

Came with one of my BFFs last night for a late lunch/early dinner as it was raining and we had to sit outside but we were under the awning and it was nice! Reminds me why I love living in LA in December!! But I digress - because I LOVE Tacos tu Madre and I really wanted her to like it too. I was so scared she might not and it wouldn’t end up being able to be one of “our places” to meet up, so I tried not to build it up and she still ended up loving it as her her first time. Yay! We each got chicken tacos, split the eloté and the red velvet churros and we both loved it all! The churros in particular were a hit!! So glad to have another Tacos tu Madre location to bring friends to!! [And eat at myself!] Yes, I realize it’s a type of a take on Mexican food and “red velvet churros” are not something I have ever seen in Mexico. But I don’t go to eat “real” Mexican food. For that, I trust the food carts, street vendors a and tiny mom & pop shops all around the city that do a very different type of food. But if you want LA’s version of trendy taco for any palate — and particularly not picky eaters — Tu Madre is one of my favorites. I especially love that they just bring the chips and salsa straight out to the table when you sit down. Because of course you want them!! They don’t play around ;) :)

Wonderful atmosphere with great service, fair prices, and delicious food (including a plant-based section of their menu!). I appreciate the creative menu with lots of vegan options. The only downside is that in May/June 2021 there's been a long wait to order and sit down at a table. When I dined recently it took about 30 minutes to get to the end of the outdoor line and place my order. Then, the food took about 30 minutes to get to the table. The staff said it'd be much faster, so perhaps they were extra busy that night. When seated chips and cucumber-mint water are brought to the table. I ordered a boozy hibiscus-rose agua fresca with a shot of mezcal, which was delicious (and quite boozy!). For my meal, I had the fried avocado bowl with kale, which was very filling. Portions are generous for the prices, relative to other trendy Mexican restaurants in town. Staff is super friendly and helpful. Nice casual atmosphere for dates and catching up with friends. Outdoor seating has heat lamps. Parking is on the street, which is fairly easy to find at meters within a block.

I recently had the unfortunate experience of dining at this restaurant and I feel compelled to share my disappointment. From start to finish, my visit was marred by a series of frustrating and unpleasant encounters.

The initial hurdle was the locked bathroom door, which forced me to wait for an excruciating 30 minutes just to use the facilities. Once inside, I was greeted by an unexpected and uncomfortable surprise - the bathroom felt as hot as a sauna. The lack of ventilation made the experience highly uncomfortable, leaving me feeling more eager to leave than relieved.

To add insult to injury, the loud music blaring inside the bathroom was simply unbearable. The volume was cranked up to such a level that it actually hurt my ears. It is bewildering that the management would subject their customers to such an auditory assault, especially in a space intended for relaxation and privacy.

Regrettably, the disappointments did not end with the bathroom ordeal. The food served was disappointingly cold, and despite our repeated requests for extra salsa, it was never brought to our table. The lack of attention to these basic requests reflects a disconcerting disregard for customer satisfaction.

Furthermore, the presence of water leaking all over the ground persisted throughout our visit. Not only was it unsightly, but it also created a hazardous environment, with customers slipping and getting wet. It was disheartening to witness the staff's indifference to this situation, as if customer comfort and safety were of little concern.

Lastly, the inattentiveness of the wait staff left a lasting negative impression. It was clear that they were not focused on providing quality service or addressing the needs of the customers. This lack of attentiveness further exacerbated the frustrations and contributed to an overall sense of disregard.

In conclusion, my experience at Tu Madre was deeply disappointing. From the locked bathroom door and the uncomfortably hot environment to the deafeningly loud music that assaulted my ears, the experience was far from pleasant. The cold food and the repeated failure to fulfill our requests for extra salsa were further indications of the lack of attention to customer needs. The water leakage and the inattentive wait staff only added to the growing list of grievances. I cannot recommend this restaurant to anyone seeking an enjoyable...

Good food but not worth the 3 hour wait we placed through the restaurant via ChowNow for pickup. Placed the order at 5:54pm. The estimated time for pickup was 6:54pm. We came to pickup around 6:30pm and there was a massive crowd waiting. There was no distinguishing between online and order apps. Our order wasn’t ready so we left and came back at 7:30, the crowd size was still the same.

The woman working was only addressing order app pickups. I had asked her about online order pickup and several other people then raised their hand after she asked “Who Else has a pickup through chownow” She proceeded to call out names for online pickup and sent their order through based on who was standing there waiting. Since she didn’t call my name I asked her about my order and she told me my order was cancelled because they decided to cancel a bunch of online pickups. My friend’s names were called so we waited for their order. I decided to place an order through chipotle since my order was “cancelled”. The woman Calls out names again for online pickup and she calls my name. I told her I had placed an order through chipotle since she said originally it was cancelled. She asked if I still wanted it and I said Yes I will take it. 20 minutes later my food was finally ready however my friends who’s names were called before me were not. At this time it’s 8:15pm. She had told them prior that their order was being made (when my order was cancelled), said it would be ready in 15 mins when I received my food, and finally at 8:30pm they received their food. When receiving their food, my friend said “this is for Adam right?” And she replied “yes do you want to check? Maybe I will need to go back to school”

It’s understandable that because of corona, ordering food is different. But a restaurant shouldn’t be picking and choosing what orders to based on who’s waiting. As a customer we’re under the impression the food is being made after we place the online order, not when we go to pickup our food and have to wait for them to make it. It was also Cinco De Mayo, whether it was pickup or we could actually dine in there wouldn’t have been a difference in flux. The process of getting people their food was completely mismanaged. Considering this is down the street from me, this was...
