Went to dinner w/my family of 4 last night. I have been coming here for years and cant believe the service I was provided today after concerns on my bill. My 9 year old daughter unfortunately is not a fan of this kind of food but she enjoys the show so she got a sprite only. I asked to have the King Crab and Scallops combo (knowing it would be a little extra) I was asked by our server if I wanted fried rice or fried noodles. I opted for no starch but an additional small salad which she said would be fine. My daughter received soup and salad anyways and I ended up eating her salad bcz the server never did bring me a second bowl. That is fine. When I got my King Crab I could smell a strong odor of ammonia and anyone who eats crab frequently knows that ammonia depicts the meat is going bad. I ate just 2 small pieces that smelled fresh and my scallops.
When I saw my bill for over $140 I noticed that my daughter was charged for the soup and salad, which was annoying in itself but then I noticed that the King Crab was charged separately and not in a combo resulting in me paying more for the rotten food I didn't eat. I decided I wouldn't say anything about the quality of food and the incorrect charge until tomorrow. Sitting at a table w/6 other ppl is a little embarrassing to bring up such problems and I did not feel comfortable.
I called today and spoke w/Katie Sy. She listened to my issue and stated there is nothing wrong w/their crab and that if I ate the extra salad then I needed to pay for it, hands down. She never once apologized, she continued to talk over me which made me infuriated. How can someone treat your guests that way. I asked her if I meant anything to her as a regular guest, her response was "we've been in business for many years" so I said "I guess i'm not that important then huh?" I asked her if she guarantees the food they serve there but she never did answer that, so I guess they don't. She said she would refund me the soup and salad after minutes of arguing w/me and when I said I also wanted the crab refunded she stated "crab legs are expensive" to which I responded "I know, I paid for them!!" She argued and argued w/me and when I asked what her name was and who her boss was she stated she was the owner and that there was no one else who I could speak with.
I can not believe the level of service this young lady has decided to provide to one of their regular guests. I will be sure to let all my friends and family as well as the ppl in my neighborhood know this is completely unacceptable and we will not be returning to your establishment, good food or not. You do NOT treat people paying YOUR bills this way. All over roughly $50 - You should be ashamed of yourselves and I feel sorry for the ppl who work for you.
Here is the kicker.... about 30 minutes after I hung up on her for arguing w/me she called me back at 530pm on a friday no less to tell me 2 things
That my sons order was misentered into the computer and that he received the adult portion but that I only paid for the kids size, she said "which is fine by me because we made that mistake" WHAT? Am I suppose to be grateful that they saved me a few bucks at their cost? Is she trying to do me a favor?
She stated she spoke w/my server and that I ate all my crab.. and that she took only shells away. UNBELIEVABLE! Like I am lying... I cant believe the level of service this person went to to call me a liar. WOW! AGAIN you should be ashamed of how you treat your guests. I can't believe you would call me back to argue that I was still in the wrong. What is wrong with you? !! You are in the wrong...
Read moreThis was our first visit to this location. And as most of the other reviews have indicated the chefs were awesome and entertaining. The food was great...and the server was incompetent.
We ordered a salmon meal (prepared by the chefs before our eyes) and four sushi rolls (which I can only assume are prepared in the 'kitchen' and brought out). The chef came out and did his thing. We loved the show and my wife and I enjoyed splitting the salmon meal. We started to wonder where our sushi was (as we'd ordered it more than 30 minutes before) when the server came out and told us she had forgot to order it. She gave us the option to “order it now.” This was disappointing as we'd order one salmon meal and one sushi meal; however, we'd only planned on sitting down for one meals worth of time and had not another hour to waste.
I reminded myself of the delightful presentation I'd witnessed and the taste of the salmon and noodles I'd eaten. I would just leave hungry. No problem, it was the new year after all and a more healthy physique was among my goals. My wife asked the server, by chance, since we had been inconvenienced and not actually received the food that we'd ordered that it seemed like we deserved a small discount or voucher or something. The server informed us that since it was her fault there was nothing that she could do. We asked if she could consult her manager and see if there was something that they could do. A few moments later we were informed (by the server) of the same thing: Since it was her fault there was nothing that could be done.
I was now hungry and angry. Angry that I was just completely SOL and that this SOL status was completely sanctioned by the manager. I tried to enjoy the remaining scraps of salmon on my plate as I waited for my bill. I would revoke this status with the only voice I had left, an angry $0.00 tip.
When the bill arrived my voice was silenced in disbelief as I witnessed the automatic/mandatory 18% tip that had already been added to the bill. Not only could I not get what I had ordered I also couldn't voice any control over how much of a tip I left. We talked to the manager and demanded that they remove the tip. All the manager had to say was: it's a shame because the chef and the server split the tips. No, sorry you're leaving hungry or whoops that was a big mistake. All I received from her was guilt.
I left the restaurant hungry and angry. Now that I'm home, still angry, still hungry, I feel upset that the place I just paid my hard earned money to has made me feel this way.
I will...
Read moreLet me preface this first on how much I love Tepanyaki. It is my favorite restaurant and I go almost every other weekend. I've gone to every Tepanyaki in Utah, and this one is the best. Affordable fine dining with some of the best food I've eaten. I highly recommend the Geisha special substituting with a Filet.
However, my previous experience has been my first negative evening at any Tepanyaki ever.
We had an awful cook 2 weeks ago. They seemed Indian(Eastern), they wore a mask, and you couldn't hear a word he said. It was like they got a random guy off the side of the road and told him to cook which is a stark contrast to the very experienced cooks I normally get. Do you know how the chefs will tap their spatulas in rhythm to oriental music? Our guy (won't call him a chef) practically had a seizure with his left hand and would not stop banging the grill for the entirety of the cooking. The rice (which is my favorite) had no salt, the sauce for the noodles (and beef kushi/teriyaki chicken/steaks) was watered down, most food was somehow undercooked or very overcooked, it took the guy 3 times as long to cook our food compared to the other cooks and somehow the chicken that was on the grill at the beginning, was slow roasted for 1 and a half hours and served last! We let our server know about our experience, and that shw would pass it onto the manager(btw, our server, she was fantastic).
What I consider to be a 5-star restaurant has been tainted by a horrible experience. I will keep my rating at a 4 until they let the guy go or properly train him, and I feel like I'm being generous with that. I hope it isn't a sign of worse things to come and that they keep their current experienced staff.
If you get that cook, RUN AWAY!
Edit: 12/16, same cook. Dropped his spatula when he arrived at our...
