Two of us went to Puerto Vallarta Mexican Grill & Cantina at Jordan Landing, on Saturday, Oct. 28th. We get seated and shortly after the waitress comes to the table with a bowl of chips and the smallest cup of salsa I have ever seen. They were good but the amount of salsa was very inadequate. We order drinks and Fried Calamari to start with. We’re told they don’t have Calamari, so we order the (4) Bacon wrapped cheese filled Jalapeño’s with ranch dressing on the side. Why would they have an appetizer on the menu and not have it available. That was a huge disappointment. When the Jalapeños and drinks arrive at the table I order the Deluxe Combo, which is (3) Birria tacos, (1) Vallartita and Consome. My buddy orders the Pina Rellena, which is Shrimp, octopus, scallops, clam, (3) crab legs and cheese, with rice, salad and tortillas. Shortly after the waitress returns to the table and asks if I wanted the tacos hard or soft, and immediately leaves, then a second return to ask if I wanted cheese on them, and leaves again. The first bite of the jalapenos I realize they are so hot I can’t even taste the ranch dressing. I’m sucking on my Diet Coke to help wash the hotness out of my mouth and the second bite was even hotter than the first. Needless to say they were to hot to even eat after two bites. I was totally disappointed with them. And to set the record, I can eat hot jalapenos, but when they are so hot I can not taste anything else they are to hot to consume. We were both in agreement there. The main dishes show up and the food looks good, I get the tacos, vallartita and no consome. I ask and the waitress says she not sure if it comes with it and she would have to ask. I never got it. I did get a tray with onions, green sauce, red sauce and fresh limes. I used some green sauce and limes. My buddy got his main dish and the presentation was good, looked delicious. As we started eating I realized the food was very bland, hardly any flavor to it. Also, they had put a thin paper on the plate before putting any food on it and as I ate the juices from the food was saturating the paper and it was sticking to the food. Countless times I had to pull the paper off the food before I could eat. Finally I gave up and didn’t finish the plate. My buddy said his food was also very bland and didn’t know why it was served on a halved pineapple as they had not flavored the food at all with the pineapple. We both left disappointed and would give the restaurant a 2 and 3 rating. This has to be one of the worst dinners we have had, and at a $75 bill with no alcohol, for 2, that is very expensive. Then, later that night both of us got sick to our stomach, all night long, even into the next day. Very bad taste in our mouth. I would rate this Grill & Cantina a 1, only because the Diet Coke was pleasing. In all actuality it should get a Zero. We are so disappointed that both of us will...
Read moreI came to this place quite a few times and haven’t been back since the last time. I remember it was when a boxing match was going on me and my friend both went because we were of course going to eat and watch. i kid you not everyone in there was probably there for the same reason. but for some reason our table was the only one scoped out and we had some lady tell us we needed to continue to buy or get out because they had a line (they did not have a line they were going to literally be closing in like 30 minutes) and people who were there longer then us and they even heard and were confused we were sitting in the booths , and the tables above us heard… my friend talked to our waiter because you could tell he was the one complaining it was like the good service was out the window because we weren’t spending to his expectations even though his other tables were also on the same boat as us and it’s not like this place is on the cheap side you’re paying for good food and that wasn’t the problem for us but we had already got a good amount and drinks like i loved this place i would make sure to always get what i could, the waiter didn’t say anything but just sorry and got embarrassed and that wasn’t our intention to embarrass him but come on why are you not complaining about the other 2 tables you have that have been there longer then us and are just hanging out ? and my friend did say it very respectfully but apparently us standing up for ourselves was terrible and all the waiters were whispering and glaring at our table we aren’t people to complain i understand all that goes behind for waiters and respect them and try not to be that person.. now i know there can be a time limit for restaurants but it was rude to approach like that for others to hear. it was embarrassing other tables around us were like “we’ve been here longer then them” I did try and get ahold of the manager and messaged them on messenger to talk just to ask why just us? i messaged them they said they would get back to me and never did. AMAZING food but horrible service. i’ve never experienced something like that and hope i never do it was embarrassing and so poor on their part. now this was awhile ago this happened but i felt like i should bring it up because it...
Read moreI was recommended to come here by a coworker. Probably won't take recommendations from them in the future. Overall, the food was bland. To start, the chips and salsa. The salsa was way too thin and watery and came in a dish so shallow, I could barely get any salsa on my chip.
To drink, i got a taquila sunrise, which was orange juice, grenadine, and maybe a thimble full of taquila at most. I felt like i just paid for $10 orange juice. My fiancé got a michelaguas, which she said she liked. I tried a sip, and it tasted good, but I am not familiar enough with the drink to give it any sort of rating.
As an appetizer, we had gotten chicharrones de pescado, which were pretty good, especially with the sauce they came with.
For dinner, I had gotten fajitas mixtas, which had almost no flavor at all, and the shrimp still had the tails on them. Normally, that wouldn't matter, but since i wanted to eat using the tortillas, now I had to detach tails before I could put them onto the tortilla. After I added some beans, rice, all three meats, and the veg that came in the mix, all I could taste was tortilla. I had to add a lot of salsa to get any real flavor added to my meal. I was told they were known for their birria tacos, so I got 2 of them as well, and they were pretty good. No birria sauce came with them, however, so I was disappointed about that. I guess it only comes with the 4 count they offer on the menu. My fiance got the Pulpo a LA Diablo, which wasn't bad, but that's mostly because of how spicy the sauce was.
The service wasn't bad, but I wouldn't call it good either. One of the servers that brought some of our food out was smiling and pleasant, but our main server only smiled when she brought us back the bill, knowing it was time to leave a tip. She wasn't rude to us or anything like that. She just didn't seem friendly and welcoming.
The atmosphere of the place was fine, but we sat out on the patio with one of our neighbors having a screaming child, which wasn't the restaurants fault, but because of the close quarters, it was pretty annoying. Also, it felt like we were eating in a tent.
Overall, I would not recommend...
