Cafe Literato — Restaurant in West Lafayette

9/15/24 Our book club meets at this location fairly regularly. We usually have a pretty decent experience. We all come in from various locations to meet at this central location to us. We’re a group of moms of varying ages, well over college-age. The food here is always delicious, which keeps us coming back.

On a recommendation, we were encouraged to try the Sweet Orange Bread. Two of us decided to share a slice. They had all of these beautiful inch-thick slices under a glass dome and they gave us a quarter-inch end piece.

We asked for a better slice of this orange bread and they refused to switch it. Instead, we were told that it’s the end piece so it’s a little smaller. “Same price?” No answer. They said if we want a real slice, we would have to buy another one. We walked away feeling like we were putting them out. They should have made this right. (This particular piece should never have been sold to begin with.)

We are all associated with many other clubs who look for places to meet regularly. We will think twice about coming here next time.

This place let us down with their inability to see that the slice they gave us was severely lacking compared to the large, beautiful pieces next to it. Super upset after the experience I had today, I'm a loyal customer and eat here more than I like to admit. Joined a membership reward program months back, realized 3 weeks ago, I haven't been getting points. I also presented the scan code emailed to me with instructions of use, to the staff at time of order. NOBODY had a clue what it was, and had no answers for how it works. I go in today, same questions about the rewards, I'm told I have to use a credit card (not true) to get the rewards, another girl blurts out "your supposed to tell us you're a rewards member when you order". It was rude, simply put, and they kept saying "well for future reference".. OK that's good and all,but I still didn't get MY CURRERNT purchase put on for rewards. Just felt like they made me feel like I was the only one doing something wrong, were dismissive and short, and offered me nothing for my $100's of dollars worth of purchases uncredited to my account. I was clearly upset and made it aware I will probably not come back, hoping they would escalate the matter to management. Nothing.. I'm really bummed, because I love it there, but I hate how this...

Update: Every single time I’ve come here in the last 2 years I wait at the register area to order for at least 5-10 minutes before an employee casually strolls over and asks if they can help. The entire time waiting no one even acknowledges us saying they’ll be with us shortly or anything like that. The food is usually great, but not even sure about that anymore since everytime I go I end up leaving since no one is there to take my order. I’ve tried their ordering kiosk once and our order came out after about 30 minutes (there were only 2 other parties there and they ordered AFTER us) and the order came out wrong. So disappointing, this place used to be great.
