Chaparritos — Restaurant in West Lafayette

I'm from out of town. While in Lafayette, I was looking online for a Mexican restaurant and found Chaparritos. It was nearby and is highly rated. At the time, those criteria were most important. When we arrived at 4:45, we were the only two there to dine. I wondered if we had made the best choice. Immediately, we were greeted and seated by a very nice young lady. Seconds later, a young man brought chips and salsa to our table. The chips were good, the salsa was GREAT. We had dinners (tacos and tostadas) with rice and beans. The food is very good. What impressed me most about this establishment was the service and the atmosphere. It's a family-run restaurant and to me it is evident there's a lot of love in everything they do. At about 5:00, the place began to fill up and by 5:20 every table was occupied and there were people waiting to be seated. Perhaps a half dozen people picked up to-go orders while we were there. The food is good af love their steak quesadillas but the customer service is very very poor. I order from them all the time via door dash but today I decided to come in and order my food. I’m pregnant 🤰🏾 so I had to stop by and get my usual order but the cashier was too busy flirty with other customers when it was my turn to ring up my order she didn’t want to talk to me. But had the audacity to ask if she can see my nails 💅🏾 because they’re so beautiful in her words. I thanked her for the compliment but she didn’t want to talk to me when I asked a simple question 🙋🏾‍♀️ which was how much was my order instead just pointed down at the machine saying pay. Very unprofessional customer service came out the back handed me my food with attitude. I love the food but definitely can’t deal with the attitudes of cashiers customer service…I just honestly hope it wasn’t because I was black. Oan…I am going to hold off going here...

Sadly, we will not ever go back. Tacos, guacamole and salsa and chips were good. But our queso was cold and way too thick. The first chip in just slid the queso across the bottom of the bowl and nothing stuck to the chip. I tried stirring it and scooped a chunk out and tasted flavorless and was cold. We didn't eat anymore. Told the bus girl it was bad and she didn't say anything. Just took it and the dirty dishes. Went to pay and told our waitress/cashier and she said something unflattering in Spanish. I told her the issue and she again muttered are you serious in Spanish. My wife then said, You know we can understand you. Then the waitress started to charge us for it and we said we weren't paying for bad queso and she didn't say anything else and removed it.
