Smallcakes Palm Bay — Restaurant in West Melbourne

This is going to be a pretty long review, but, I am sharing our experience here in case if someone wants to think twice before placing a customized order. We recently placed an order for a custom birthday cake for our LO’s 4th birthday and it was a Blippi cake. When the baker heard the word “Blippi” said she never heard about that character, we understood not everyone is aware of this character. So, we showed her an image of the cake and explained to her that Blippi’s colors are blue and orange. While we were explaining, she noted down something, so we left the store assuming she got everything right. We emailed her the image of the cake too. When we went to pick up the cake (one day before the party), it was not what we asked for, instead of blue and orange, she had used blue and yellow and the baker was not in the shop. The guy at the cashier’s suggestion was to leave the cake no matter what was going to happen with the party the next day. While we were trying to request to change from yellow to orange, the manager showed up and her explanation was the image of the cake was blue and yellow, when it was clearly not yellow! She refused to change the colors and her explanation was that the baker won’t have time to do. After explaining to her what exactly happened when we placed the order and finding that Baker had not noted down the two colors in the order, she agreed to contact the baker to see whether she’d be willing to fix it the next day before the party. After a few minutes, the manager contacted us and said she was going to fix the cake so I could have it the next day. I usually drive out of my way here because they have gluten free cupcakes. Thought I’d treat myself tonight because it’s Saturday and when I came in tonight at 8 and they didn’t have any gluten free cupcakes on display. When I asked the girl working she said they didn’t have any because she put the icing away already. This usually happens on the keto and gluten free cupcakes quite often :/ sucks because I made a drive just for these cupcakes and I left empty handed. I understand they want to leave at closing which isn’t until 9pm but they lost a sale because they were ready to go home at 8… gave a 3 star only because when I do leave with cupcakes they’re delish and usually have good customer service but tonight definitely left a nasty taste in my mouth. Sucks when they have tons of regular cupcakes and the ones who have allergies or diet restrictions are always hit or miss when...

We usually love Smallcakes and get many cupcakes for various birthdays, holidays, family gatherings, etc. We purchased 8 cupcakes and 2 “brownies” last week for a birthday. Normally the cupcakes have ample amounts of frosting, but I think on this day the baker must have been in a rush or something because the frosting was sad and dismal. As for the “brownies”, I do not even know where to begin, lol. As you can see from the pictures, they do the brownies in cupcake form and I’m not quite sure why. They were sadly a hardened, sunken, disgusting mess that should never have been sold. We love brownies and we’re excited to try these and after a couple test bites they went straight in the trash.

Otherwise, Smallcakes is usually fantastic. The cupcakes are moist, delicious, and stay fresh and tasty for days with a bit of refrigeration. It is all of my families favorite place...
