We were going on a trip to the Florida Keys, and we were specifically taking the A1A all the way down. Always wanted to do that. We identified some restaurants we wanted to look into for lunch, and this place peaked our interest! So we pulled up, found some street parking pretty easily, and got seated promptly.
Ambiance was nice. A nice little outdoor patio area that was bisected by sidewalk. Giant window to look out of for the indoor seating. Open kitchen so you could watch the cooking. Not bad. Quaint.
Service was excellent. I have a feeling it was just the owner doing the serving from when the place opened until closer to dinner time, but man, he busted his behind taking care of us and everyone else who was there. Good stuff.
And then the food. We started off with the Wonton de Cangrejo (Crispy Fried Wontons Filled With Crab Meat And A Zesty Homemade Sour Sauce). These were fine. Exactly what you'd expect. Same with the sauce. If that's what you're feeling, that's fine, but if you're wanting something different and unique, get something else for an app.
Next was the Ceviche Mixto (Our Seafood Dish Cured With Lime, Paired With Sweet Potato, Onions, Cilantro And Peruvian Corn). Now this was a good ceviche. Not too acidic, somehow. Perfectly cooked, perfectly succulent seafood. Plump shrimp and cute little bay scallops. Really good. Could use some pine nuts for a crunchy texture, but other than that, I really enjoyed this.
Hmm, I can't really find the main event dish we had. It was beef and veggies sautéed up and served over rice. It was really lovely. Something about the Peruvian spice blend makes it taste like chili powder, but with no spice. Beef was tender, the veggies were plentiful, and that was some of the best rice I've ever had. Really great dish.
Overall, this place was a really unexpected find on my way down towards the Keys. I never would have thought to stop in this town to find some food, but since Mestizo has won its place on some pretty prestigious lists recently, it drew me in, and I am very lucky...
Read moreWe were in West Palm Beach on vacation and craving Peruvian food, so I searched around on Google and stumbled upon this gem. After checking their Instagram and seeing that Peruvian National Team and Bayern Munich legend Claudio Pizarro had visited, we knew we had to try it. The restaurant has a warm, welcoming vibe with about 6–7 tables inside plus outdoor seating. Pedro, the owner, was incredibly friendly and happy to answer any questions.
We started with the ceviche de pescado, yuquita mestizo, and causa de pollo (not pictured). The yuquita mestizo was light and fluffy with a cheesy filling—similar to Brazilian pão de queijo but less heavy—and paired perfectly with their housemade huancaína sauce. The causa de pollo was hands-down the best I’ve ever had—packed with flavor and a hit with everyone at the table. The ceviche was equally impressive: perfectly seasoned with just the right amount of ají, a classic Peruvian dish done right.
For our mains, we ordered three different dishes: Pollo Saltado, Tacu Lomo, and “A la Huancaína” (a lomo saltado with tallarín and huancaína sauce). All were fantastic. This was our first time trying tallarín with huancaína sauce, and now I’m tempted to ask for this “secret menu” item at other Peruvian spots back home. Both the filet mignon and chicken in the saltados were tender, flavorful, and cooked to perfection, soaking up every bit of that rich saltado sauce.
If you’re in West Palm Beach and want authentic Peruvian food without making the trip to Miami, Mestizo Fusion Cuisine is absolutely...
Read moreI mean, what a restaurant!! My dad and I love to try new food, and when we were staying in the area and saw Peruvian, we HAD to go, and boy was it worth it! First of all, this restaurant is just so adorable and it’s decorated very culturally which is super cool. It’s tucked in a super neat area of West Palm, in their old downtown. They have indoor and outdoor seating. We had an appetizer that was like the Peruvian version of pot stickers, and I really could’ve just kept eating a bunch of those. I got the scallops for the main course and even just the presentation was so beautiful and on par! The taste was so unique and wonderful, the scallops were cooked excellent and they have this raspberry? jam/sauce with them and some greens so you get that savory and sweet taste, it was so different but I loved it. My dad got a different seafood dish that I can’t remember now, but I loved that even more than the scallops. It had some different seafood in it, shrimp, scallops, fish and a few others, with steamed carrots and potatoes and it just all worked together so well. Now lastly, the Tres Leches cake. When I tell you I would drive the whole 3 hours down here again just to have that cake, I am DEAD. SERIOUS. that is some of the best dessert I have ever had!! I dream about it all the time ever since. This is really just such a quality restaurant with the sweetest owners and I couldn’t recommend it more, really just...
