Breakfast Review - Not a great breakfast option unless you want pastries and coffee
The Ghost has been there only a couple of times, and so this is a "tentative review." If you are looking for a cup of "Joe" and something quick this could be an option for you. TG rates Subculture as a "C" an average rating. Subculture is your local Starbucks type coffee shop with a "San Francisco feel." It attracts a younger "would be hip" crowd for a cup of coffee, to meet friends, or pound out a couple of Emails.
Subculture is located on historic Clematis Street in Downtown West Palm Beach just west of Quadrille Blvd (Route 1) and very close to the new Brightline West Palm Beach train station (at the time of this review - the path to the Brightline was obstructed, but should be fixed shortly). Street parking is metered and limited, but there is a public garage next door (for a fee). It is also located on West Palm Beach's free trolley line.
Subculture is busy in the morning (like most coffee shops), and there usually is a short line at the counter. There is no table service. The menu is limited to mostly pastries and cereals. There are only a couple hot breakfasts, and breakfast sandwiches are pre-prepared and are similar to Starbucks in quality. There is some outdoor seating on Clematis Street. The dining area is large for a coffee shop and flexible so you can accommodate a larger group with a little effort. The restaurant is clean urban-rustic (a bit dark) with a nice tin ceiling. It is a "causal place." It is a bit noisy, as the floor is hard surfaced and there is no noise damping. There was music playing softly in the background but was difficult to hear over the conversations. It is definitely more of a "locals" place rather than a tourist place.
The Ghost tied the Egg and Cheese (baked) sandwich with was mediocre (a bit cold in the middle). TG prefers eggs scrambled, but as they are prepared the sandwiches ahead of time, changes are not possible. TG noticed that the egg sandwiches were stored on a counter unrefrigerated (which for was a bit concerning). TG saw some breakfast empanadas that looked good and might try in the future. There are no "daily breakfast specials." Oddly there are two separate counters far apart: one for food, the other for beverages. A bit strange and not particularly convenient.
Service is what you expect in a coffee shop - "functional indifference."
The "facilities" are "so-so" a bit "urban" (Spartan with graffiti - some by the staff). Subculture also offer lunch (please note this is NOT a review for lunch - which will be included in a separate future review).
The coffee is OK more like Starbucks (a little bitter...
Read moreMr Mayo we regret you put us in this position. The one and only job that we were hired to do for you was completely and successfully finished but you still owe us a substantial pending balance. You willingly failed to file Permits with WPB Building Department as you often do with all of your properties, when we recommend to do so and then got busted by local WPB Building Department Codes Enforcement. You wanted us to lie and cover up for you which I cannot do. Because We are State of Florida certified and licensed General Contractors in good standing with the DBPR, we are Mandatory Reporter for Public Safety and construction. Like the other only 3 fake retaliatory negative reviews left on our Google My Businesses page by former disgruntled clients, your fake negative review will be processed for legal action as they're being reviewed by our legal counsel. Like the only 3 disgruntled former clients who tried to screw my business but couldn't, you now resort to the cheap shot tactics of slander and defamation for which you will also be held accountable in a court of law. Obviously your comments come because we have to report you for unlicensed unpermitted activity at all of your commercial properties to the Construction Licensing Board of the State of Florida, DBPR and local WPB Building Department and Code Enforcement for putting Public Safety at risk including that of your very own employees. Your properties should be shut down not only for unlicensed unpermitted construction work which is illegal in Florida, but also for directly facilitating and conducting the sale of illegal drugs and encouraging Human Trafficking for which the FBI, IRS, WPBPD, PBSO, DBPR, Law Enforcement and other Regulatory Agencies with jurisdiction are investigating. Please address here in public your concerns about the one and only job we did for you successfully and from which you still have a pending balance that you refuse to pay for no real legal reason. We gave you a below market price under your promise of additional work which never came. If you read the other only 3 fake reviews about us, you will see they had to pay my attorney's fees and we won cases in court after they committed perjury and lied with false accusations. Last but not least after taking your abuse and harassment and bullying during course of the project, we have discovered upon investigation that you are a repeat offender with a rap at the local Building Departments in South Florida for putting Public Safety at risk. By the way, Starbucks it's 100% better product. Thank...
