If I could give this place zero stars I would! I was in the area looking for somewhere to grab a quick breakfast/lunch so I saw this place & decided to give it a try. As a Jamaican I was intrigued by the concept of a Jamaican coffee house . Imagine my surprise when 2 meals. 2 smoothies & a muffin came to be $76!!! The 2 smoothies had no flavor & was very watery so at $11 each we were less than impressed. The blueberry muffin was the only thing positive about this experience , the muffin was warm, light & fluffy which left us feeling very hopeful about the food however the rest of the food was lackluster especially at this price point. I ordered the jerk chicken wrap & it was a hard tortilla with barely any chicken or other filling. As for the jerk chicken it lacked flavor the chicken only tasted spicy but flavorless at the same time. My friend ordered the ackee & saltfish & as a Jamaican it didn't pass the eye test so I didn't expect much beyond that. The 1 spoon of ackee was served with 2 dumplings 1 banana & a salad all drowned in parsley at a cost of $30! We dined at the tables that are set up outside of the restaurant, while eating the lady that took our order came to check on us so we asked for some water where we were told they don't serve water you have to purchase a bottle for $2 which we did but I very disappointed that after spending $76 at this establishment we couldn't even have a cup of water. The fries that were served with the jerk chicken wrap was drowning in oil , the fries tasted like they came from the oil to my plate. The only 2 things I enjoyed at this restaurant was the water & muffin. Over priced & underwhelming! Would not recommend!!
Responding to a honest review being nasty isn't going to get you anywhere!!! Hire a real Jamaican to cook the food instead of serving a spoon of ackee covered in parsley & bland tasteless"jerk chicken". A Jamaican wasn't in the kitchen much less room where any of this food was prepared. I'm not cheap & have no problem paying I have a problem paying when the quality doesn't match what is being served. Learn to take constructive criticism that's the problem with...
Read moreGood experience that turned horrible! Put a sign up saying “If customers break/chip any of tableware/China you have to pay!”
Food was really good! Had the corned beef hash, a buttered croissant, cornmeal porridge, and the ackee and salt fish. The only thing we didn’t care for was the cornmeal porridge because it was was grainy and not thick. The service started great as Jessie was ecstatic and very chatty, a bit overly chatty but it was fine, and then it all went bad when it came to the tea pots and china.
My mom didn’t hold on to the top of the tea pot correctly and it came loose and fell onto a cup, chipping it. Immediately, Jessie handed us a couple napkins from across the counter and came over to see if the cup was chipped… which was her only concern! She saw the chip and told my mom that she would have to pay for that, to which my mom responded it was an accident and that she shouldn’t have to pay (which makes sense??). Even worse, when my mom said she wouldn’t pay Jessie said that SHE would have to pay which.. that’s horrible even if this is a private establishment. Jessie said she’d have to call the owner, and my mom was confused and getting more upset at this point. Jessie eventually came back from the kitchen to tell us she had called the owner and instead of paying $80 for the chip on the cup, we would only have to pay $10? Again, very odd. When my mom said no again, Jessie said the owner wanted to speak with my mother on the phone and my mom wasn’t having it. Mind you, this whole time we were still sitting there waiting for our food with the spilled tea sitting on the table since she was more concerned with the chip rather than giving us more napkins and towels to clean up the mess.
Overall, I would go back for the food but the service when problems arose and odd management ways were upsetting. There is also no...
Read moreMy friend and I went in for a cup of coffee at 1:30pm. When I tried to open the front door, it was locked, then the owner came from inside to open the door (red flag number 1). It was completely empty inside no surprise. The coffee is super overpriced but I proceeded to buy it anyways. The owner of the coffee shop was immediately off the bat rude. As she was making my coffee, I went to grab the menu that I put down on the counter. I think because of the noice from me grabbing the menu, she quickly did a 180 turn to look right at me. I think she thought I was trying to steal something. Which is strange because if you’re paying $8 for a small coffee, why would you need to steal? Then when I asked her why she was looking at me in that way, she said that my eyes were off? I don’t even know what that means. Then she asked my friend where he works, then proceeds to tell him that the coffee there is horrible. What a strange way to make a customer want to return. My friend and I looked at each other in disbelief because of the really strange atmosphere that was caused by this lady.
It’s sad, because I came in once before and was served by her employee and she was really nice and made me want to return in the first place, but after the really rude and strange interaction from the owner, I wouldn’t ever want to return to this place. If the owner is reading this then know, that I just moved to city place, and you could of had a consistent customer, but due to your attitude and discrimination, there’s no way I would return to your coffee shop. How hard is it to just be pleasant? I really should have read the reviews before coming here because it seems like a lot of other people has had the same strange interaction...
