Probably won't return mainly because of the customer service.
Short version: It was already humbling enough to realize I'm not smarter than a 5th grader when it comes to math; but when we finally got into the second room where there were series of WORN indentation combination locks to be open, to be told "you must not know how to open locks" was uncalled for...
long version: upon arriving there was nobody at the front desk and the female handler was upstairs and sort of stood there at the top of the stairs expecting us to already know what to do...maybe she seemed annoyed or distracted with other things? I don't know I wasn't going to take it personally since everyone is entitled to have a bad day...she finally direct us (still at the top of the stairs) where the lockers are and we go upstairs. appearance wise---the place seems old and had a lot of items all over the place, was expecting a little bit more cleanliness for 35.00 per person. So we arrive in our room---now I thought it would've been a nice touch to be asked "is this your first time?" 'cause...it was!!! I never done an escape room...wanted to take my kids out and enjoy the day (and off the video games)--but I digress-- back to our room---she brushes through the instructions pretty quickly that my son asked a question in which her she became annoyed saying "I already said that..." honestly I just didn't like how she responded to my child---strike 2-- We made it to the second room with only minutes to spare. there were a series of boxes with combo locks--once i found the answer to one of the questions i began to put the numbers into the lock *mind you the indentations of the locks were pretty worn out so i didn't know what direction to go also we only had like less than a minute to spare--- Welp our time is up and we didn't make it out--out of shear embarrassment that I literally could not solve 5th grade math problem (palm to face in shame) to add insult to my prideful injury---the female handler says "you must not know how to open locks."-------------strike 3-------------excuse me?! Since when did we become besties that you felt comfortable to talk to me like that?! So i replied " well everything was scratched off and old i couldn't see the numbers..." she doesn't reply back.... my kids got some candy and we took some pictures...and yep...I probably...
Read moreFirst I just want to say that our group was so excited to try out this escape room, we saw all the good reviews and disregarded all of the bad ones warning us about the owner and how she lacks in professionalism. Our group did the bomb room and we had a pretty large group so although we weren’t doing the best we were actually having fun. We obviously weren’t going to finish on time but wanted to enjoy the full experience as the owner had informed us that if we weren’t to finish on time the room would fill up with smoke and the bomb would go off. At the 2 minute mark the owner Randy barges in and says ‘well obviously you guys aren’t gonna make it so I’m just gonna tell you how to disarm the bomb’. We were all a little put off and confused as to why we couldn’t finish and why we couldn’t get the full experience that we paid for. Then, while still having a minute left, she answers the telephone and starts rudely speaking to a prospective customer and during her phone call our time ran out. Not only did she not understand why most of us were upset, instead of having some decency and customer service she just goes on and on about how she doesn’t understand HOW she ruined our experience and that she has great reviews and just can’t seem to understand why we were so upset. She was rude and unprofessional. On top of that, the next day someone in our group left a bad review and she calls the person that made the reservation demanding to know who it was. I have never experienced a place with such horrible customer service and we should’ve heeded the advice from other reviewers that said the same. I would never recommend for anyone to go here, there are plenty of other escape rooms to choose from where at the very least you would be shown some respect and...
Read more(Update below) Original review: Really wishing I had read these reviews beforehand because The Mortuary was poorly constructed. I’ve done at least 10 rooms before (and not entry-level difficulty) and this one was pure haphazard guessing of numbers—no through-line of story or clever clues. Tried to share feedback with Julian at the front desk but he was very dismissive that I just couldn’t appreciate the “non-linear” design. Unfortunately that tracks because they dismissed a woman’s review (she noted she was also a frequent player) of the same room below. Maybe fun for a one-off if you don’t know what you’re doing but if you enjoy the art of a well-structured escape room… save your money for another venue.
Update: management reached out after reading our review and apologized for the experience and actively solicited our feedback on what could make the gameplay more cohesive for future players. They also invited us back to try a different room and we did the Classroom which apparently has been around for years. The gameplay and room design was excellent! Much more in line with quality escape rooms I’ve done in the past. We would put the classroom at 3.5 out of five difficulty and the mortuary out of five. Hopefully they don’t make it easier to solve… Just beef up the narrative and connect the pieces a...
