UPDATE 11/18/23: I saw Dickey’s response to my review and messaged them at the email address provided. Not only did I never hear back. But emailed again, to make sure my email went through. And still no response. I have come to the conclusion, them replying to comments here to try and make things right, is nothing more than lip service. If they aren’t even going to respond, then don’t bother to post a response, like you actually care about improving the customer experience in the first place. I am removing two more stars, for wasting my time. And for the lack of response to my two emails.
Well, let me start by stating a couple of things. The service was good. I think both people were helpful and friendly. The smell inside Dickey’s is always incredible. There is nothing quite like the smell of good bbq.
That being said, the food was a mixed bag. And I have eaten over the years at Dickeys multiple times. And my most recent visits seem to all share this mixed bag theme. This time, I ordered a shredded pork sandwich combo (I think?). Anyway, I got the sandwich. Macaroni and cheese. And a drink. The first thing to get out of the way, is I made my drink sweet tea. This is second time I have gotten sweet tea. And I must say, the tea is absolutely sub par. On every level. I consider myself a sweet tea aficionado. And I would rate the latest sweet tea as one of the worst I have ever had. It tasted like watered down, day old, barely tea flavored water. The tea flavor did not come through. Neither did the sweetness. Absolutely zero stars out of 5 on the tea… Sorry, but I have to be honest. Next is the side macaroni and cheese. It is just run of the mill IMO. Nothing to write home about. I give it a 2 out of 5 stars. The flavor was bland at best. Finally, the shredded pork sandwich. The bun was good. The flavor of the pork itself good. But the meat was very dry. I mean very dry. The one saving grace, if the bbq sauce. I covered it with the sauce and it definitely saved the sandwich. Now to be fair, their bbq sauce I consider to be very good. Flavor and spices are great. So the sandwich gets 3 out of 5 stars. For flavor. Had it not been so dry, it would have easily scored 4 out of 5 stars.
Overall, the meal was about $11 with tax (I think?). Would I consider it a good value? Well, no, simply because the tea was downright bad. And the macaroni and cheese was just run of the mill. If those two had been better, it would have been a better value IMO.
I want to try some other sides. Because the meats seem to be good. So maybe the right combo with sides will be...
Read moreExcellent, I highly recommend this barbecue establishment. I am a Texan and I know barbecue and this is great barbecue. Let's begin with the parking lot, there is plenty of parking as it is in a shopping Center parking lot and it is well lit and very clean. The front of the store also very clean. Inside of the store Ultra Clean, please see the photos. There is a large posted menu like a chalkboard that is easy to read. You stand in a cafeteria style line to order and at the register it is given to you and you pay with cash or credit or debit cards. If you are paying with cards it has a nice tap your card feature. The employees were Ultra nice and they welcome you to the restaurant. There is plenty of table seating. The walls are decorated with themed pictures. In the ceiling there are wagon wheels that operate as lighting fixtures and it adds to the barbecue atmosphere. Place your tray of food on the table that you choose and then walk over to the beverage machine where they have Coke and Dr Pepper and other self serve drinks. Next to the drink machine are three cattles of different types of barbecue sauce I tried all three and they were delicious. Next to that is a napkin station also you can get your forks and spoons and accessories there and next to that is an ice cream machine self-serve. There are men and women restrooms and they were Ultra Clean. That about wraps it up. I took plenty of pictures that outlines everything I wrote about above. Salt Lake City has a homeless population problem and it's not this establishments fault that the homeless walk through the parking lot. Based solely on that I would recommend that you always lock the door of your car and make sure if you have anything in the car to cover it up. This is everywhere in the greater area of downtown Salt Lake City and again it's not this business's fault. Housing crisis has created a huge homelessness problem. Desperate people may do...
Read moreClosed SUNDAYS? Are you joking? Good luck staying in business! Sometimes the beef brisket is good, other times it is very dry and crumbling. Because of this, the food is overpriced. I went in once for chicken and they said they were out of chicken. You get a small square bread "roll" but there is no butter, so its really dry and gross. They need to improve here, and stay open Sundays... or I don't see them staying open more than another year or two. It's always empty when I go. I would like to update my review. We went back in January 2020. This time the brisket and chicken looked pink to me. I told the cook and the cashier that BOTH meats did not look cooked properly. They both assured me they were. So I eat half of the stuff in the store, then take the rest home for my kids to eat. Guess what- we ALL got major diarrhea from this food (since we all ate different breakfast and lunch). The previous time I got diarrhea I believe off the cole slaw. So the meat is either overcooked or under cooked and you get sick. I went back 2 days later to ask for a FULL REFUND! Instead of giving this to me (I had my receipt), they told me to call the manager Ashley. Nope- don't have time to do this anymore. Lack of customer service as the cook remembered who I was and that I complained when I got the meat it was...
